My name is Robert Frost G. I am a local business man, care giver for my mother, and have lived here since I was 9 years old. I have been attacked and defamed by Zoey's Home Consignments, a used furniture store. Here is my story. Decide for yourself who is the aggressor.
I find myself in an unusual situation, forced to defend my honor, that of my future wife, my mother, and that of, oddly, my recently deceased cat, and my tutoring business. Zoey's Home Consignments owner Marie Menks viciously attacked me on her Google Plus account and on this website, even though I am the customer not the business. They have insulted me as a person and told people not to use my business, even though I never did business with them through my tutoring service. I simply bought a bed frame and tried to pick it up. The business in question is Zoey's Home Consingments of San Luis Obispo.
Now, everybody gets criticized eventually, especially if you have been in business long enough. I certainly deserve some of the blame for the this situation with Zoey's. I overreacted to what I perceived as an insult when I went to pick up a purchased bed frame. I certainly didn't deserve, however, to be labeled “cray cray” crazy or even an animal abuser. I certainly didn't deserve to be accused of harassment or threatening to steal furniture from them, or of being a spammer, or having been evicted twice or been told it is a crime to file bankruptcy or being obsessed with Russian women or being told I don't have a wife or girlfriend who is Russian. I do indeed have a “mommy” whom I take care of which seems to be an object of derision. My dear mother has had a stroke and I take care of her, but that seems to be something Zoey's considers derogatory. I believe taking care of one's parent an honorable thing. Not every son or daughter has the opportunity to take care of a parent when they are sick but I do. Here is my story and my experience with Zoey's Home Consignments.
Back in May of 2014 I purchased a bed frame, a “Captain's Loft”, from them. I made an appointment to return the next day to pick it up. The problem occurred when I arrived, the representative said “I didn't even know you were coming” and they hadn't even pulled the bed out of the pile of furniture under which it laid. I took this the wrong way and, yes, I responded badly, by swearing and storming out of the store. I felt belittled as if my purchase of only $200 was too unimportant for them to treat as an important purchase. I do have a temper but I am not bipolar and do not take medications. I am not crazy. Anyone who does have bipolar disorder would be offended by this and should never be accused of being crazy. I stormed out of the store and went home. I called to demand a refund because of their insensitivity and for not poor treatment in the store. They hung up on me. I realized then that I may not even get the bed. I called again and again because I felt I should at least be able to pick up the bed frame. Imagine how you would feel if you made a purchase and then found out you couldn't get what you bought. They then blocked my number so I called from a land line: my mother's line. I then found out they called the police on me and told me I could never come back to get the bed inside their store and that they left it outside for anyone to steal, that I should come at once to collect it before it was stolen off their lot. I didn't feel comfortable coming back so I didn't, at least not for awhile.
Instead, I called my bank and asked them to investigate Zoey's and Marie Menk for fraud. If you buy something at least you should actually be able to get it, right? I assumed the bank called because the investigator said they would look into it, and because the very next day they FINALLY called me and left a message that I could come to the store and not risk arrest. So I did. I got the bed. They even had an employee help me get the bed into my car. I appreciate that. Any blogs I wanted to write I didn't. Any threats I wanted to make I didn't. I let the matter go as a bad experience, even though I could never walk into that store again.
A few months later in September I discovered Marie Menk had blogged about me on her Google Plus account and filed a complaint on “RipoffReport.com”. I am the customer, not the business, and they filed a complaint about me as if I were the business. They have a link of their Google Plus account to one of my sales training videos. They are trying to smear my name so that my business suffers even though a bed frame has nothing to do with my business. They accuse me of harassment, threatening to steal from them, of being crazy, of being a professor (which I never was), and for having been fired for spamming students when I lived in Las Vegas (which I never did). I did indeed email 17,000 students who go to UNLV back in 2003 but I bought the list from UNLV for $65 from one of their administrative offices and emailed them following the CANN-SPAM act of 2003, which means you can do that legally if you include a way to opt out. In Nevada, students who fail to click a specific box on their application can be contacted in the manner I did. So, I never spammed anyone and I certainly never got fired from a job I never had. I was a graduate student at UNLV running a nationwide tutoring service called SuperTutorsUSA.com. They state I never paid my tutors and ran a scam operation. I have been falsely accused of that before by several tutors, and been the victim of a massive smear campaign by a former tutor, Tom Kielbasinki, but he and I later reconciled and he rescinded his complaint on the same website. Zoey's failed to read that at the bottom of the page. As for any other tutors not paid, I went out of business filing bankruptcy. There was nothing I could do about that, and going out of business is not a crime. I wish I could have paid a few tutors that I didn't but the conditions of my bankruptcy precluded that.
I was indeed evicted from a friend's condominium but that's a long story, again not relevant to the business conducted with Zoey's and not relevant to my business. I haven't been evicted twice. Furthermore, I don't have an "obsession with Russian women" though I do consider myself a “Russo-phile” and I do indeed have a Russian fiance. She will be my wife soon as soon as she gets here from Russia. I bought a twin size bed frame from Zoey's because she is not here yet. I do consider her my wife already and may have referred to her as such. I do not have “Russian women aliases” but I do have about 2,500 Russian friends on a Russian Facebook website called VK.com. I have been to Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus each once. I am Russian Orthodox Christian. My priest senses no “obsession” in Russian women and my videos online of my fiance and I are not “creepy.” That statement by Zoey's Marie Menk is very insulting to her and me and I must defend her honor. I do indeed have a driver's license, unlike claimed by Zoey's and I can do have a car.
Finally, I do have a Youtube video of my cat “Schmoopy” who was attacked by a dog and was dying. The cat was never abused, as Zoey's claims, and the veterinarian never thought this. I didn't know the cat was going to be euthanized so the video I posted was at the vet's office and it was the last time I was going to see him. I was nearly crying in the video knowing I would never see him again. We were very close. Everything I was accused of up to this point is bad enough but to accuse me of being a cat abuser was the final straw. That is a very low blow for Marie Menk and was not worthy of a response, but I feel compelled now to set the record straight.
You can decide for yourself if I am a bad person and I did respond badly to being mistreated in Zoey's store. I did not respond well to being told I can't come in to get the bed frame that I purchased. I did think I was ultimately a victim of fraud. US bank agreed. After I picked up the bed the bank actually refunded my money anyway. That was a small gift, I suppose, so I accepted the decision as providence and kept the bed frame. When my wife gets here I will give the bed frame away to charity. Zoey's Marie Menk doesn't deserve its return and I personally wouldn't recommend them to anyone who wants furniture.
Zoey's has acted unprofessional and has committed libel, and when I can prove damages I will sue them in a court of law. I think the take home message is if you are to make a complaint you stick to facts. You don't quote from other complaints or twist the words of other writers to serve your needs. You don't unnecessarily terrorize customers just because they resent your lack of customer service.
In other words, use the golden rule: if you have nothing positive to say, say nothing at all.
