I used Zero Porosity to make castings of an earring model I made. I paid higher than usual for the making of the mold ($35 versus $15, which I believe is standard charge in the industry), as well as a casting charge per piece of $5, so that even before the sterling silver cost, my bill began at $55. The silver charge at $3.25 per pennyweight is about double the spot price of silver. When I began working on the castings, I noticed that there was a pit in all the castings in the same place along the parting line. I called and received a return authorization number and send back two castings along with the mold and model and a letter detailing my issues.
I received two new castings with a $10 charge for "casting" and a $3.87/dwt charge for the silver. No credit for the two castings. When I called customer service, I was told that I have a credit for the two castings of $24, and that, upon my asking, my model would be returned to me (they kept possession of my model). I also asked why I was not contacted after receipt of my letter (my letter specifically asked for their resolution and I did expect a phone call), and I was told that it was not their business practice to call their customers.
Therefore, for two pairs of earrings, my cost for casting is $384.61 which is totally out of balance for these items (hoop earrings). I strongly recommend that this company be avoided. Good casting work can be achieved without these prices and poor service.
