Caller called claiming to be Idaho Power, demanding major amount of money to be Western Union-ed, said he was sending a power truck over to shut us off in 30 to 40 minutes unless we paid immediately. I called my boss, he called the number back that the guy gave me with some lame 'verification code- BF4498- (verification for what? that you scammed me?).... my boss said we auto pay each month, and that he was going to call the supervisor, so we actually called the REAL Idaho Power and learned we had a credit! :) So, no money lost, no disconnect, no scammer glory today! Unfortunately, I was able to type in the number of 208-398-6260 and come up with GPS coordinates to the Emmett Idaho listing. It gave me the address 220 N Johns Ave in Emmett Id. Could be fake, but its ironic the caller ID says Emmett. THEN, I also realized Ymax oration is Magic Jack, so I did further investigation, and found a link to a line in INDIA. It only took me a few clicks to locate the scammer, so why can't the authorities do anything about it? These people are taking thousands from business owners........It's a serious scam, so don't buy in, BE SURE.... always hang up and call the person back at the number listed in your phone book!
I had a very similar experience. I knew it was a scam because our lease is full service and our landlord pays for the entire building. I called to report to Idaho Power and they said to call Boise Police and file a report. I called Boise Police and they said if the scammer didn't get anything from me then they can't take the report and to call the attorney general's office. I called the attorney general's office and they didn't even bother taking my report. The woman said that the criminals use tracphones for a day or so and she has tried calling the numbers but they never get anywhere because they can't ( won't) track them. Its so lame that they won't put the resourced into investigating these crimes. It just gives the scammers free license to do whatever they want.
