Daryl Hall may be a legend in the music industry and rightfully so, but doing any business with him outside of that realm would be hazzardous without proper precautions. He made us feel we were apart of his family, and we opened ours to him treating him with respect and ensuring his saftey and privacy in his home in Kittery Point, Me. Gentelman's agreements and deals were struck (Big Mistake! We know). We shed blood, sweat, and tears all very much litterally for 3 months renovating another old property close to his with the agreement that all the labor would be held as a potential downpayment for future ownership of the building.
The decision was made beyond our controle by his new accountants (Eric Foulton from Foulton and Meyer in Califorinia) one day out of the blue to auction the building off. We were living in the renovated apartment at the time and we were given 2 months to figure out what we were going to do. A little time after the auction in Octoer we got another email that basically said, "Oh and by the way we are going to reduce your salary by 2/3s since you are no longer going to be managing this building and it will be done 10 days before Christmas. A lot of..."hey, we'll figure out something for you and it will be better we promise, please just hang in there...." was thrown around.
My husband gave up his business to work for Daryl (another big mistake), so starting something up in the middle of October in Maine was not very productive. My husbands health was also beginning to suffer. It originally started in his back then it progressed into Peripheral Neuropathy all over. The theory was that it was Lymes related, and I'll give credit where credit is due. Daryl showed compassion and was helpful in this arena given he's been through it personally. It was not Lymes. A year or so passes with no clear idea of what was going on, but his suffering was continuing and progressing. We finally got a diagnoses of MS. We emailed Daryl personally to tell him that was what the doctor's have come up with. We heard nothing from him.
A few weeks later we got an email from his business manager Johnathen Wolfson from Wolfson Entertainment his new manager who said, "Daryl has had a change of heart and is selling the Bray House and your services are no longer needed. Consider this your 2 weeks notice." With this utter slap in the face my husband called Johnathan to see what was going on and to see about some kind of severence since we were loyal to Daryl for 6 years and also got to reminding him of the deal of the labor that was worth at least 40K. Johnathan's response went something like, "we do not owe you anything, and you have no legs to stand on."
We consulted a lawyer, but nothing was in writing and we were left with nothing and the "big man" can drag this out. So, this all leaves us with no money to cushion a transition, my husband's health has been deteriorating and we are trying to get disability but there is always a large gap between applying and getting it. Our friends and family have been supportive Angels to the best of their abilities.
Daryl has stuck his head in the sand and shields himself with his business manager. We never heard a word from him. The only thing we have seen is on a Realestate website for the sale of his home the Bray house. He gave an interview stating how maticulous he renovated and restored it. Everything that was said was fabricated right down to the clawed tub that was there when he bought it originally. We were always told from his "people" that they were waiting to sell his New York property before putting any money into the Bray House. It never transpired! It's all smoke and mirrors! I feel very sad for him not having in my opinion any kind of integrity. He is leaving a wake of destruction at every property he obtains since we are not the first and probably will not be the last.
I hope this goes out as a warning to all other potential victims.
