Winner Okorie was referred to our company by another client who met him in a mutual sports interest. Mr. Okorie approached us wanting to know how to go about opening up a personal training center so he could begin working for himself. We are small business consultants and coaches specializing in start-ups so he seemed a perfect fit.
Mr. Okorie entered into a business consulting relationship with our firm in November 2014. He had some dissonance about our monthly retainer fee so as owner and CEO, it was to my discretion to enter into an alternative payment arrangement. I agreed to reduce the retainer fee by half in exchange for a set number of personal training sessions of equal value. Mr. Okorie agree and we executed a written contract fully setting forth all terms and conditions.
To date, I have never received a single personal training session from Mr. Okorie; however, my company has provided him with the following services from November 18, 2014 through to February 17 2015:
Consulted on determining a name for the center
Consulted on business location and provided referral to real estate contact who found location
Drafted lease proposal, terms and conditions
Consulted on payment fee schedule - Mr. Okorie was initially charging too little to cover his expenses and make a profit
Consulted on business entity - He was ill-advised by a family member that he should be a nonprofit organization so he could get access to grant money by adding a children's program
Consulted on website and social media presence - created Facebook and website (over 20 hours of unbilled website design was provided)
Managed social media including scheduled Facebook posts
Consulted on logo design elements and referred to graphic designer who completed the work
Registered Mr. Okorie's business name, established him as a Limited Liability Company, agreed to act as Registed Agent, and registered city business license
Consulted on equipment needs and signage placement
Mr. Okorie did not honor his contracts' terms and conditions. I never received my training sessions and furthermore, Mr. Okorie requested that our contract be cancelled. This was fine as per his terms and conditions, he could cancel giving 30 days notice; however, instead of honoring the 30 days, he took it upon himself to submit fraudulent chargebacks against the payments sent to my company already claiming they were "duplicate" charges. These funds are now on hold until our banks can settle the disputed charges.
Beware doing business with this individual. He does not understand business and is being ill-advised by people who also don't understand business. One of these people is his attorney sister who does not specialize in business law and therefore is not considering business impact when advising him to do the most ridiculous things. When presented with proper advise, if he doesn't like it he makes fraudulent charges against you and also will submit fraudulent chargebacks to his bank against authorized payments rendered to you. Do not do business with this unscrupulous individual.
He is a con artist out to get what he can from others. Case in point, just to avoid proper legal channels acording to his contract with my firm, he has caused his original business fan page to lose its existing followers, content, and customer recommendations that were actually helping his business. Talking about a slap in the face to those of his customers who had already taken the time and energy to Like and submit recommendations for him. This is a very stupid thing to do for someone trying to build their social media presence and is just one example that he has no clue what he is doing. Beware your business dealings with this company.
I am a small business myself and can not afford to have unscrupulous clients who fail to honor their contracts and then attempt to smudge my reputation with false claims of unauthorized charges and stolen intellectual property. My passion and the reason I created my business is to help small business owners gain the knowledge they need to run an efficient and profitable business.
