To all reading this report, please let this be a warning to avoid White Castle Construction and White Castle Landscaping.
They may be registered as two seperate business entities but they are operated by the same group.
On March 25, 2014. We signed a contract to have our floors refinished (sanded, stained and top coated),
kitchen, family room painted and ensuite to be remodelled.
Whole project cost was $7600.
Just as other people have reported, they request down payment up front and then start request more money
with every consecutive visit. We paid $6000 until we had to ask them please complete one of the tasks.
At that point, they only sent one worker (John), who continued to work on his own time only showing up for an hour a day.
The job was quoted to take 21 days by Alex but 5 weeks later, the job is incomplete.hat's worse was the complete massacre White Castle did to he house.
The painting... Sloppy! they painted light switches, air returns. An eight year old could have done a better job.
The ensuite was not completed. List of things they did wrong:
1. Laid tiles in 2 different patterns on the floor.
2. Left 2 cracked tiles in floor.
3. used wrong bolts to secure toilet
4. Backsplash not complete. Used .5 inch edging (floor edging)
and never grouted tiles. They used adhesive as grout. Just crap! took pictures. It's so bad it's funny.
5. floor tiles not cut properly to fit original register.
6. Vanity top not centered to base!
BUT the criminal act was what they did to to hardwood floors.
absolute butcher job. First rile of sanding.... ""Sand with the grain"".
The White Castle crew just sanded the floors like a zamboni.
as a result, they left behind huge scratches in the floor.
Some scratches are 1mm deep And 3 feet long. This damage is seen all through the house with hardwood.
When we confronted them about the scratches, they said "" we fix"". As they left with the sanding machine returning to Hine Depot.
when we started confronting them about their quality, they mad any excuse to leave the house.
They never returned and even left their equipment and toils behind.
After 2 weeks of trying to get Alex (owner) to come to the house to see the damage, he finally stopped answering my calls.
Conveniently both Alex's cell phone mail box is full and the main office mail box is full.
needless to say, we have started to take legal action and file claims against them with Ontario BBB.
I found this company on Kijiji...I could not find any reviews on them which I found funny. But Alex the owner came to our house to go over the contract and what we wanted done on the exterior of our house. He quoted us $28,000 and this was too much for us so we asked to have our patio stones lifted and reset on both sides of the house instead of doing interlock. Which dropped the price to $22000. We were in agreement to have a pond removed,some landscaping-clean up, a 4 cedar hedge put in, a flag stone walkway and porch, painting of the house and a garden around the walkway also a border on the driveway. We gave him $1000 cash right there. The next day 20 guys showed up and started. HE asked for more money-$5000, we gave it...the next less guys showed up but he asked again for more...$5000 given. The third day the same thing. on the 4th day my husband and I argued with the fact that he asked again for more money but not one thing was finished. He pushed and pushed and we argued. The next day he came with more guys and he asked for more money. My husband had discussed with him another $4000. HE told me $4500...so I thought he was telling the truth. HE lied. The next week we called and texted everyday. I asked to meet him and he came but said he would do everything. It made me very nervous that only 1 or 2 guys were on our property and then eventually nothing...no person. My husband and I continually asked when are you coming and his reply was always tomorrow. Finally there was no response. This guy is the biggest crook. He took $20,500 from us and still did not finish the painting, did not do the driveway border and did not do the patio. We are out $6000-$7000. To all who are looking at this company my suggestion is dont ...you cannot depend on him at all to finish the job.
Very sad now..we have to get someone else to complete our exterior.
