John Crick from Whistle contacted my business, and asked that I write feature documentation for the company he works for - Whistle. As part of this project, I was asked to download the Whistle app, create multiple screen shots, and write several pages of content.
I worked more than three hours on this project, and submitted it to him completed. He did not acknowledge that he received the work. After several attempts, he wrote back and said that he wouldn't be using it after all.
I invoiced him for the work, and he claimed that I agreed to working for free. I did not. I'm a professional writer who works on an hourly rate of $75. He then proceeded to be rude and dismissive upon me asking to get paid for the work completed.
He admitted that he regularly asks writers, designers, and programmers to provide him with "free samples" to test their skills.
