Westgate Travel Club Reviews

  • Sep 19, 2014

When we were vacationing in Branson at The Woods Resort (Westgate) we attended a travel club presentation. Our oldest daughter had died June 28th and we were still in a grieving state, unable to make good decisions. We made the mistake of signing up for the Westgate Travel Club with the crazy cost of $6,000. The salespeople made it sound so inviting and we were not capable of good judgment at the time. We knew that we had 3 days to change our minds so we wrote a letter of cancellation the same night of the day we signed up. August 13th was the day and we dated our letter that very day. We took it to the resort's registration desk to go out in the mail on the 14th. The U.S. postal service has never let us down in the past and I doubt that it did this time.

When we called the Travel Club they claimed that they had not received our letter and that the charge on our credit card would remain. We tried to explain the above but it was like talking to the wall when we spoke to a rep on the phone. We sent numerous e-mails explaining our grief and why we had made a rash decision. We also explained that our letter was dated the very day we had signed. The club, via e-mail, asked that we return the "package" which we had been given the day of the sale. We returned it to the Club as directed. We now have nothing in our possession from the Club. We received many e-mails from them ignoring our plea for the return of our money. We explained that we were still paying for a cemetery plot and certainly could not afford the Travel Club at this time. I also informed them that I was being treated for depression and on two medications and was not capable of making sound decisions. My doctor wrote a note for the Club explaining my depressive state. On August 29th we received a letter from them where they mentioned our letter so I know they had received it. They said that we had recinded too late. However, we know the letter was dated the very day that we had signed. It was not our fault that their office had misplaced the letter. It was our understanding from the salespeople that the letter had to be dated within 3 days of the sale, not received within 3 days.

No one at the Travel Club ever bothered to sign their communications. I guess that no one wanted to take responsibility for their stubborn, nasty attitude. The almighty dollar is all important to them. They totally lack sympathy for circumstances such as ours. I would not work for such a company and I would warn all of you out there to not have any dealings with anything Westgate. Beware. They don't follow their rules and they certainly have no concern for others who have suffered serious loss.
