I recenly contracted Chef Eric Stein, owner of Wellness Chef located at 1000 W. Washington Blvd. #303 Chicago, IL. We agreed that he would develop recipes for our business in accordance to our expected demographic/audience. This audience was expected to be 75% single individuals and couples and 25% families. For this reason, we made it very clear to Eric that our meal plans needed to be designed mainly for individuals and couples. In fact, he had asked directly in an email for our customer breakdown and we responded with these very same requirements (*happy to share this email with anyone who is potentially at risk of being had by this crook).
A week later so, he delivers 20 or so recipes out of the 90+ we had agreed on, but they were all for 4 servings! Then, my team and I emailed him several times raising our concerns that the recipes should have been developed for single servings but he ignored our emails. After finally getting him on the phone, he says we never told him the recipes needed to be developed for single individuals or couples. and that it would be impossible to do this for various inexcusable reasons. In short, he was well aware of what we agreed upon, we have the documented emails which explicitely state the scope of work and breakdown of recipe requirements, and when confronted about this became very irritable (as he did in front of our staff at one point and we all thought he was on drugs) and started to threaten me by calling off our deal.
I also want to note that initially he sent an agreement asking for 50% up front! Thank God I negotiated this down to 25% but I completely regret doing this much. Lesson learned, no upfront payments ever, especially for shade-balls like this guy.
We also paid for his flight, his stay, and to secure nutrition fact software ESHA which any credible recipe developer should already have access to. Bottom line, don't deal with this scumbag. Something is very off with him. Our attorneys are dealing with the situation now but so far he has not responed to any of our emails or phone calls.
