Weil-McLain, in my opinion, is not to be trusted to honor their 10 year warranty on my gas water heater. I had a two year old water heater that started to leak a few weeks ago. My plumber tried to get them to replace it, but they said the annodes were damaged (these little rods inside the water heater that help extend the life of water heaters for people who have hard water). Here's the thing - we've had several water heaters in the past 20 years - but NONE, and I mean NONE have only lasted two years. Second, we have a water treatment system that filters water before it gets into the water heater. It's desinged to filter out the minerals that hurt pipes - and water heaters.
When I spoke to their customer service person, she was completely unreasonable about a replacement, stating that if the annodes had been changed, the water heater wouldn't have failed. Tell me, do any of YOU out there change out your annodes on a regular basis?? I told her that any water heater shouldn't fail after two and a half years for ANY reason, and she said she was sorry that mine had, but that there was nothing they were going to do about it. I asked her to speak with her supervisor - but she was clear that wasn't going to happen.
After two emails to her, I gave up. I went out and bought a new water heater - and I can promise you it's not a Weil-McLain and will never be a Weil-McLain.
My advice to you is DO NOT buy a Weil McLain if you live in an area with the least little bit of hard water - or you too will have spent $2000 for nothing. Weil McLain has not honored their warranty - and that makes them, in my opinion an untrustworthy company. They don't deserve my business - or YOURS!
