I received an email today from a Lauren Smalls from We Hire Center USA for a job I've never applied to. We've all heard of United Health Care and I thought I did apply to a lot of jobs most recently, perhaps I just don't remember and I made the mistake of providing the wrong number some how. So I responded as it wouldn't hurt to inquire a bit more and play it safe. Addressed to me in the email: "Are you still interested in a $40K+ per year administrative/office position? I want to schedule your meeting with the hiring manager at UnitedHealth Group and another financial firm but the phone number I have for you is not in service. Are you available to meet this week? If so, email me back so we can move forward. Also, having a working phone number on file would stop me from emailing you so much - I will call. Thanks for your quick response [my name]. I did, however, get an email from another company (or same company under another alias) in attempt to get a response from me with more than just an email reply. The email contents: "Subject: Office Assistant Job with Osage Group [my name] your job offer will expire on Monday February 16, 2015 at 6PM (PST) Lauren Smalls at the WeHireCenter suggested that I reached out again to offer you our Office Assistant position because the phone number you provided was incorrect. As a result, we want to meet with you on Monday February 16th at 10AM in our financial center. Please remember that this senior level administrative role pays $69K-$74K per year for someone with an advance graduate degree. However, I can offer you a starting salary of $46,500.00 if you share your educational goals today and come in to meet with us on Monday. If I don't receive your completed educational questionnaire within 24-hours, I will be forced to offer your position to another candidate. However, I really want to hire you! Truth is, we need to know what your educational goals are...it's the only way I can hire you without having an advanced college degree. At this point I'm 100% certain both of these emails are scams. From what I've read with a bit of online research it's all in attempt to sign you up for phone lists for for-profit-schools. They sure are in a hurry to hire someone who they've never met and know nearly nothing about.
