I received a phone call today from these people and they left a voicemail. In this day and age of TCPA class actions and FDCPA claims, I was laughably surprised they had the gall to tell me that they were calling regarding a "criminal case" and sited some bogus case number. The idiot then proceeded to say they'd been instructed to serve papers in a criminal case and that if the call wasn't returned that they'd be issuing a bench warrant. Gee, I thought that only Judges could issue a bench warrant.
Sadly, the call wasn't for me, but was misdirected. Likely to someone who previously had the phone number at some point in the past. I was actually a bit sad that it wasn't for me.
I would have picked up the phone and had my Attorney file a FDCPA case against them so fast their heads would have spun around. Damn, I could have used a $1000, too. It's summer after all and a great time of year to shop.
If these people contact you and leave these kinds of messages, save them! Then find a good attorney on NACA (National Association of Consumer Advocates) and sue them. You'll be surprised how easy it is and how fast you can make some money. No one should tolerate or be subjected to these fools.
After talking to a representative today I felt the need to look up the company name. I did not expect to find them on the Ripoff Report but I am not surprised. I thought at the end of the call that they are a collection agency, but I feel they go a bit too far in their tactics.
Like the previous comment I agree that they call a lot. They definitely do not have a problem repeatedly calling family members and they make their message sound scary, first of all identifying themselves as detectives, saying they are working on a legal case, sounding like they are from the courthouse. I have not had the opportunity to talk to anyone by calling the 866 number so I can't comment on what that process is like.
