Signed up with Vonage September 2014, $17.80 month for 2 lines (2 telephone numbers).Auto billed my AMEX card 11 months and never ported either number from AT&T, nor notified me of their failure to port.
Vonage told me they would handle everything on their end and the AT&T service would automatically cancel because the numbers would transfer over...all I had to do was plug the Vonage VOIP in my wall. Meanwhile my husbands is being auto billed by AT&T. Turns out we had never left AT&T (the numbers were still there) and I had been duped into believing I was utilizing Vonage service - which is why I never questioned the $17.80 per month charge on AMEX. The upshot is this: they refused to refund $195.80 (11 months of service) - even after it had been escalated to a 'senior supervisor' level.
They confirmed through their records that there had been absolutely no activity (usage) on the Vonage account and that THEY failed to port the number. I offered an alternative....give me 11 months of free service going forward, port the 2 numbers and we will call it even, No, they would not do that because they don't have a 'billing code' for 'free' ($0 per month), and it was against their policies. Further $17.80 per month was for 1 phone number, not 2 - 2 numbers would double the price to $35.60 per month. Whoa wait one second...I specifically signed up with with Vonage in order to SAVE money over our AT&T bill, not spend more.
I explained that my original sales representative signed me up for a special 2 for 1 deal = $17.80 month (9.99 + tax) - no contract, price never expires and never goes up AND I GET 2 LINES. That deal + the price is what convinced me to switch. Turns out that not only was I defrauded by the company, fleeced/refused a refund of $195.80, but I was also lied to by the 'new customer acquisition department'. My customer retention specialist (cancellation department) refused every remedy I proposed and told me perhaps I could dispute the charges with AMEX.
So AMEX is supposed to eat the cost for their fraud? Doesn't that mean that AMEX customers eat the cost?
My failure to double check their work and make sure they did what they said they would do, cost me $195 bucks.Beware.
PS - the reason it took so long to 'catch' the mistake was because AT&T was being charged to a business credit card held by my husband, Only when he approached me and asked why AT$T was still billing - 'I though you switched us to Vonage' - did I start to investigate and uncovered all of the above shenanigans.
Danny Love Today at 19:31 To bad vonage has been calling lately claiming I owe a outstanding bill when this is not true. I have been a Vonage customer for a long time and this is the first time Vonage ever pulled some nonsense. I have been told three diferent things by three different tellers who can not be on the same page if you prayed for it. Sad to say I may just go ahead and kick you out of my home because whatever your new syllabus is for payment....Eye don't like it and Vonage needs to teach the tellers to be more customer courteous and pay attention to what is going on. #DISAPPOINTED
It has been over a year, since 2014 I have been trying to cancel their phone line. i changed to basic talk, Vonage in 2013, it never worked, I was only able to make 1 phonecall and then the phone wouldn't work. It's in automatic billing and they bill religiously, even when I gpjave tried to cancel the service, I have requested my number back, AT&T has called and equested to change my number to at&t and Vonage refuses.
Pit is a Ripoff
A ,r Steve responded and told me to call him, and he would personally resolve this issue, and I called about 8 times, never heard back, the service was never cancelled and Vonage refuses to credit my account. I want to Camcel this useless telephone service. Once again cancel my service and release my number.
I signed up with Vonage via their Live Chat. An agent took my order and, after my describing the promotion they have adveterised on their web site, processed y order. It was very easy to sign up. I'll try to attach the web page, but here is the copy:

A day after I received my equipment, a CSR called to follow up the next evening with how I was doing. Among other things, he said that I was signed up for "Vonage World", one of the international calling plans. This is not the plan above.
I told him there was an error and, instead of correcting the mistake, he offered to additional credits in exchange for my staying on Vonage World. I told him I was not okay with that, and that I should be put on the plan that I ordered.
I spoke with Account Management the next evening. Even though they acknowledge that the error was theirs in the processing of the order but, in a strange circular explanation, I am no longer "a new customer" and therefore no longer eligible for the promotion that I asked for. Despite repeated arguments that I am, in fact, a new customer and that I was calling about an error in the processing of my (new customer) order. All I got was a Yes, you are a new customer and yes, we did make the mistake, but because you are already on the Vonage World plan, you are not a new customer and, therefore, don't get to take advantage of the promotion you are interested in.
We cancelled services and were assured not additional charges will apply. Later receive a bill for $180.00 and was sent to collections
VONAGE is not an honest company. BE AWARE. These charges did not have any backup, as they could not back it up with calls because our service was cancelled.
Voyage basic talk is a rip off, they don't provide service at all! My phone never worked since I changed to basic talk. They require a credit card in order to supposedly provide service, then once they start billing you, they never stop! They refuse to answer the phone, and refuse to release my phone line to AT &T. the only thing they know what to do is bill you!
Basic talk doesn't answer to credit card disputes, and they continue to bill you eventhough you request them to STOP the service, and the billing. I have requested my credit card company to stop processing their charges, but they keep sending them,
I have been a Vonage customer for more than 9 years now and their response, their ability to resolve the problem are quite shocking for a customer and especially long term customer like me.
Early 2014 i was travelling for more than 45 days and hence i called them prior to my travel and informed them to pu my account on vacation hold, i clearly remember the agent telling me that the phone will not work and that i need to call them back after i return from travel to UN HOLD the account.
Upon my return, i noticed the phone was working when i made my first call so i assumed that the agent never activated my request of vacation hold and continued to use the phone as usual, then comes my credit card bill with close to $1000 in small chunks taken from me over the month.
I called the customer service explained them nicely that the agent could have told me wrong information (I still believe that he did) or i could have mis understood and asked them to assist with this issue, they simply said it was charged correctly and they can't do anything about it, i asked for audio recording of initial call when i first called to request vacation hold and it was not provided nor any sign of help.
I reasearched and escalated to "executive response team" who was very slow but got in touch and promised that they will listen to the tapes and assist, i followed up several times over few months and finally i got hold of same executive that promised me and he simply said that he is still awaiting tapes and would get back to me in a week just like first time and till date he hasn't.
Recently during my follow ups, i learned that "executive response team" has been discontinued and there is no one to escalate, i even tried the CEO's office and left several messages to date which i think is joke. They never called me once so far.
All in all, i lost $1000 for no reason, i want everyone to know to that Vonage ripped me off.
Vonage has royally messed up my home phone account. Got an email of confirmation of cancellation of service and porting over to another provider. I never requested them to do that. So they have SOLD a new account to me with a temporary number that should be operational within 24-48 hours. Meanwhile, they have created a 'ticket' to investigate what happened to my old number. I requested my old number back and they said it could take up to 72 hours for them to find out what happened. So if you have my old number, please message me and I will give you my 'new' temporary number, that might work tomorrow or Saturday. I think it is crazy that they are charging me to set up a 'new' account when I never asked them to close the other account (and yes, my payments were up to date).

The company riases its rate secretly then makes you find them out
If you cancel they refuse to prorate
Do not auto pay them if possible
