While myself and family where on vacation this August we had a very disturbing interaction with Vida Vacations while on a Promotional 90 Minute Time Share sales pitch.
On Sunday August 18, 2013 we visited a Tourist Information shop in Playa Del Carmin. A Mr. Carlos Rodriques was the person we spoke with. We gave him $50.00 for a promotional tour, which we where told would only last 90 Minutes. (first lie) At the end of the tour we would receive a certificate for an Adventure Park which included a Zipline, Jungle walk, Cenote and 3 ATV’s. We could go directly to the Adventure Park after the promotional tour because Carlos had already reserved the ATV’s. (second lie) Carlos always understood we were flying back home on Tuesday, so the Adventure Park need to be available on Monday. We where getting a reduced fee because we had our own car and did not need any transportation. (third lie).
We met Carlos as discussed at 9:00 am Monday Morning. He was a passenger in a taxi. He got out at some point and asked us to follow the taxi to the time share hotel. Carlos then said something odd “tell them a mexican lie, don’t say reservation to the Adventure Park is for today (Monday) and then just go to the park”.
When we got to the Grand Mayan hotel the taxi driver requested 300 Pesos, we refused.
We took the tour 90 minutes with Mike Davis. After 90 minutes we were handed over to another sales person “Joshua”. I let him know their 90 minutes were over. Joshua said “Welcome to Mexican time”. The sales pitch went on for another 20-30 minutes with various sales folks. After declining all sales offers we were brought to the gifting area. A long line with another 20-30 minute wait. (fourth lie, your tours take much longer than 90 minutes) When we got to the gifting clerk he offered us a tour for Wednesday, Monday was already booked. We were upset at this point. After some time and some concern over how may major credit cards we have we were offered a different tour at Explorer but later that day at 5:30 (fifth lie) or a cash rebate of our original $50. plus $150. We choose the Explorer. Since the Explorer included dinner we canceled a dinner reservation we had. We went to the Explorer at 5:30 and were told by the staff, they were getting ready to close and there was no evening times on Mondays. Now on our last day of vacation the entire family is disappointed. I went back to the tourist information booth and got back my $50.
This of course leaves me with the impression that Vida Vacations are not honest and should not be trusted.
