We recently stayed at a vacation rental on Minehaha St.in Rockaway Beach Oregon. When we arrived we had no code for the door lock and no internet info. It took quite awhile to contact someone to get inside. Once we entered the house we were nearly overcome by the mold odor. It was awful. The layout was alright, albeit a little strange and the bathroom was tiny. I mean REALLY small. If you were a larger person, it was nearly unusable. The furnishings were not very comfy and looked very outdated- like garage sale items. The master had a comfortable bed and that was the best part of the entire place...however- the bedrooms had visible black mold. 3 of us returned home ill from sleeping in those toxic rooms. It was quite a run down rental considering we paid over $500 for 3 nights. The location was nice- short walk to the ocean. We will report this vacation rental to the county to get the mold eradicated. It is a health risk. VACASA would not allow us to leave a review because it was negative. They also offered nothing in the way of a partial reimbursement or even a voucher for a future stay. We will not use them in the future. We have also lodged a complaint with the BBB to warm other potential guests of this incident and the poor way our complaint was handled by this company.
My fiance and I rented one of Vacasa Oregon coast properties this spring (Alpine Chalet in Otter Rock, OR).
The issues that I experienced with their rental were:
1) Horrible odor all through the place -- even the mattresses smelled nauseatingly. The smell was a mixture of dog pee, cigarette smoke, body odor and who knows what else.
2) Everything, and I mean everything from utensils to carpets was horribly dirty -- dust, human and pet hair and other filth found everywhere, even in the fridge.
3) Kitchenware was not in usable condition -- it was not only dirty, but most of cookware was burnt to unusable condition.
4) Blinds were broken and missing in some spots. There was a big piece of them missing in the living room, where we could have been seen from the parking lotand other units. This completely violated our privacy and safety.
5) Window screen was missing in the master bedroom, which would also allow anyone to break into our bedroom if the window was open.
6) Dishwasher was not only rusty inside, which is a health concern, it also didn't work well -- it would not open the soap container during the washing cycle. So we had to wash our dishes manually with paper towels, because the dishwashing sponge was in a disgusting condition as well.
We tried to contact Vacasa from the unit, but were only able to reach a customer service clerk who suggested to send housekeeping. Here is why that didn't work: It would have taken at least 24 hours to clean and air out the place considering how filthy and stinky it was. If you take into consideration blinds and cookware replacement, and dishwasher repair, it would have taken even more time. They advertised that unit as equipped with full kitchen and, obviously, blinds.
Plus, we didn't pay for that unit to sit outside and watch someone clean the unit for who knows how long on OUR time.
The clerk then suggested that she could move us to another unit.
That was not an acceptable solution either: the unit that we rented was the only oceanfront unit on the property and the only unit of that size. All other units were much smaller and faced the parking lot. Moving us to another unit would have meant that we'd have to face the parking lot, when we'd paid for ocean front. So I feel that they never offered us a unit of the same value.
We just ended up leaving the condo the following morning after we'd paid for two nights.
I took pictures of everything described above and sent it to Vacasa. They still refused to admit that the rental was not in habitable condition and refused to issue a refund at first. Later they "generously" suggested refunding our cleaning fee; and that was it.
P.S. All of the above are my personal experience with Vacasa. Recent reviews of Alpine Chalet on Tripadvisor show that other people have had an identical experience with this property and with Vacasa as we did this spring.
