I received a bill for $261.50 after closing my account with Central Alabama Propane Gas and returning the rented 250 gallon tank. The bill in question did not detail what the charges were for. Prior to receiving the bill my account had been paid in full. Multiple calls to the office in Jasper, AL and Paducah, Kentucky were not returned.
I contacted Central Alabama Propane multiple times over a four month period beginning November 2013 requesting a refill and relocation of my tank. The calls were never answered and I was forced to leave messages on an answering machine. Several weeks later when I was able to get someone on the phone I had to again explain I needed my tank refilled and relocated approximately 8 ft from where it was currently installed. The individuals I spoke with were rude, condescending, and sarcastic while I was on the phone. I was told they were “down to one truck” and “didn’t know” when they would be able to respond to my request. Several months later two men appeared early one morning and said “they heard there was a tank to be returned….….” Central Alabama Propane never responded to my request for a refill nor attempted to relocate the above tank prior to the visit.
I had no intention of blindly paying fees for services never received or equipment I couldn’t use as a result of Central Alabama Propane’s incompetence and inability to successfully perform even the most basic customer/product support service. They are the worst example of a locally run, “customer service” oriented business I’ve seen in 20 years, and failed to meet their contractual obligation.
Writing to the corporate office to complain resulted in a letter from their attorney, Eric Gibson, demanding I pay the attached bill, including charges for cement blocks and other equipment the driver and his assistant took with them when they came to collect the tank.
I recommend avoiding this company completely, or be prepared for a total lack of service and to be cheated on your bill.
