When I first moved into University Place apartments, my first issue was with the false advertisement of the room sizes. When shown the rooms I asked if this would be the layout of my apartment and I was told yes. Once my roommate and I received our keys we discovered my room and closet was significantly smaller and when voicing our concern to the office our complaint was dismissed.
Next we did not have the desk that was in the model apartment shown to us although I asked if all the furniture seen would be included. When speaking to the manager about this issue, we were told that we received new furniture that did not include the desk. However my roommate and I have pictures of the model apartment and the furniture was identical to the furniture that was in our apartment. This too was dismissed.
Two months into the lease I saw a rat in my kitchen and began hearing it in the walls of my bedroom and the bathroom.
When calling the office I was told the maintenance man was working on something and could possible get to me the following day. After weeks of going back and forth, we were promised pest control 3 times in which they never came. On one of these occasions one of the staff member told us pest control never came, then called back insisting they did come into our apartment but could not tell us what time or where they laid poison or what kind of poison. We were later inform that pest control cannot lay poison in the apartments.
I asked management to simply move us apartments since there was in infestation and I was told there was no infestation and we would be required to pay a $200 transfer fee. I saw the rat numerous times, one in which maintenance caught one in my apartment and informed us that a larger one was caught above us. Rat traps were placed outside but staff told residence the boxes were to catch insects. We lived with rats for 3 months and in that time I spoke to corporate numerous times in which they did the bare minimal to help. I asked for a month off of rent for the inconveniences, health hazard, and trauma and was only offered $100 off my rent.
Still living with rats, we received a notice that our furniture would be taken and we would receive new furniture sometime the following day. When I asked the office how I was supposed to sleep if they were taking our beds I was told to make alternate arrangements. We were also instructed to put all of our belongings on the floor; while we still had rats. Once the furniture arrived we discovered that we were being downgraded. We started off with a queen size bed with a headboard, six compartment dresser with mirror, and a night stand then we received a full size bed with no headboard, a four compartment dresser without a mirror, a night stand and a desk.
Finally moving units, tnew manager assured us that the apartment would be able to get cleaned after we moved our things into it, 6 months later and I still have black paint and oil stains on my carpets. I recently went to wash my clothes in the washing facility only to discover construction was going on and I could not use the facility. When making a motion to go to the second facility I was inform both were under construction and probably not going to be ready for use until the following week. When calling the office to confirm that they were restricting an entire apartment complex from washing their clothes for an entire week, I was told there would be a notice when they were up and running although there was no notice of them being out of order.
Along with not being able to wash clothes, I cannot park in front of or even near my apartment because they are working on the cement. Meanwhile the bridge is close so we have to drive around, the printer never worked, and I’ve heard multiple complaints about mold. The parking is already limited in that I, a resident, have to parking in visitors. Now there are tractors and plants occupying the spaces we do have available, yet the complex has the tow company on standby 24 hours a day. There was a crawfish boil in which they left a table with crawfish particles in a parking spot that reeked for two days until I had to move it on the sidewalk because that was the only available parking space. As a paying resident I should not have to park down the street at night and walk home because of the many inconveniences of university place.
