I worked for this guy Joe Cortesi and drove his cargo vans for a couple months. A couple months is all I could stand. He puts vans on with FedEx Custom Critical and you have to apply through them. I went through that whole process and qualified. I went over the road in the van he provided, and the van he provided looked like hippopotamus crap. The side windows weren't covered, no cot or bunk for me to sleep in, and it was just filthy on the inside like an old coffin.
He has his own transportation company, Universal Expedite, and he gets his own loads. There are times that you are sitting waiting on loads from FedEx Custom Critical, and they don't have anything, and Joe will find you a load through his own crappy company, Universal Expedite, but the loads turned out to be so crappy, they weren't even worth taking.
Most of the loads he gets are rejected from every other company out there. Nobody wants this crap, so he gets it and tries to sell it to me. Then I find out that I only have 30 minutes to get there, but I'm 79 miles away. Some of the loads have a lot of miles, like 900 or 1,000 miles, but that doesn't matter, because when I would finally get my direct deposit, I would see a payment of $50 in my account after a week full of driving all over the country.
He paid me the first two weeks, but after that, I didn't see any money coming into my account. Friday would come and go and my account would still say "$0.00". I drove every single day, so I didn't understand why I waan't making any money. I called him up and he gave me this Broadway song and dance about the economy, fuel prices, and a bunch of other crap.
This just didn't make any sense to me. How could I be driving every day for weeks at a time, and not make any money whatsoever? Not even $10 Joe? After the 4th week of seeing "$0.00" on Saturday morning, I was done. I called him and told him I was finished, and guess what, he tried to convince me to stay using that same song and dance about the economy, fuel prices, his grandma, and bullcrap.
I took this dummy his van back and he told me that I didn't have any balance coming to me whatsoever. I drove for 4 weeks straight and didn't even have $0.25 coming? I called FedEx myself and they told me without going into detail that the van was indeed earning money. FedEx doesn't get involved between contractor and driver issues so they couldn't help me.
I told him I had talked to FedEx and he swears up and down that he would pay me if I had earned a profit, which I know I did, but this low life piece of dog crap simply took my earnings and kept them for himself. He always has ads online because he is always ripping off drivers. I met another driver who went through the same crap I did with this idiot.
Joe Cortesi lied to me, scammed me, and took me for $1,000's because of his greed. I have heard nothing but horror story after horror story about this guy. I don't understand how FedEx could work with such a piece of filth. I wouldn't recommend this guy to my worst enemy.
