I just found this forum and want drivers to know that my card number was stolen and I never opened or used Uber. I just found out from My credit Card company that someone signed up for Uber points. When I looked at my statement someone used Uber in San Francisco three times. I was not in California. I live in a tiny town on the East coast where we do not have or need Uber. I never thought this could happen to me but it did.
When I contacted Uber (I tried calling their phone number and it says to use their email to contact a rep- That is not good when fraud has occurred!)
So I write Uber via email and explain what has happened sending copy of the charges via my Credit Card statement.
I get a reply from a Marcus telling the following:
This is Marcus with Uber Community Support.
So sorry to hear about the trouble with the unrecognized charges. Happy to help get this sorted out. In order to trace these charges, can you please provide me with the following information? To protect your information, please do not include your full card number.
The date of each charge
The exact amount of each charge
The type of card
Just the first 6 and last 4 digits of your card
The expiration date for your card
In the past we've seen cases where a friend or family member has access to the card in question and has used it on their own account. Could this be the case for you? I recommend checking around with anyone else who shares this card to see if you can trace those charges to their Uber accounts.
In the meantime I’ll investigate on my end. Note that our privacy policy doesn’t allow me to disclose ride or account information to anyone other than the account holder, so when I am able to identify these charges I will resend the receipts to that person only.
If you have any other questions or concerns in the meantime please let us know.
Thank you for your patience,
Marcus
My response as a victim to Credit Card Fraud:
Apparently you do not understand my situation. No one is approved to use my card except myself. So no family member, friend or otherwise has any approval to use my card. And I am not sure what you mean by "when I am able to identify these charges I will resend the receipts to that person only"?
Someone opened an Uber account using my AMEX card number, or added my number to an existing account as a method of payment. How do you verify a account holder against the credit card that is used for a transaction?
Since I never opened an account with Uber I want to know do you ask for the 3 or 4 digit security number when payers are checking out, or verify the name and zip of the address on the card account?
DO NOT send anything to this person it is a continuation of fraud and I do not want my identify stolen. Please do not give them my address or phone number.!
I have filled out a Police Report and my credit card has been closed by American Express. Copy of Police report enclosed.
If anything Uber should investigate this person for fraud and stealing someone's credit card and using it illegally! You should be contacting the police on your end in reference to this fraud!
Without security measures you allow fraud to occur and it hurts innocent people like myself.
On July 4th, I along with some friends, were on Vacation in Virginia Beach, Virginia. We decided to go out for the night! Being responsible adults, we decided to use the Uber service for a ride home.
We called, got a ride and made it home. The next morning I checked my bank statement to find an $88.65 charge for a short 9.97 mile ride back to our hotel. That is only a 15 minute ride and I was charged way too much. We knew I would more than likely pay a little more because it being a holiday weekend, and I was okay with that.
After checking my bank statement I had a charge for $50.
53, and that seemed a little high but I didn't complain. Then I also had a charge for $38.12 that had no explanation. The receipt on the Uber app said NOTHING about a $38.12 charge! It only listed the break down for the $50.53. After doing some digging and emailing with their "Support" team they informed me that if you have more than 4 people in the vehicle you are charged more.
I have searched and nowhere on the website or app can I find ANY information on being charged more for a certain number of people in the vehicle. There apparently are hidden fees that they DO NOT want anyone to know about until they charge you for it. I am stuck paying this extra money for my short ride all because they hide things like this to the public.
I can honestly say that I will NEVER, EVER use this horrible Uber service again! I feel like I was suckered out of money that I work hard for. I will tell everyone I know to NEVER use this Uber!
I innocently began using Uber in September of 2014. I realized once I started using it, that it was a much more affordable car service than taxis or car services in my area. (note: I live in Jersey and I spend a lot of time in NYC) I did not see or notice many if any Uber issues until....about February 2015. Since then here is a detailed list of the problems:
1. GPS somehow directing drivers completely in the wrong direction. I had a driver take me to Short Hills instead of Montclair. He blamed the GPS...I call a lie, he just took several wrong turns and went completely out of his way. I emailed Uber and they fixed the price/adjusted it...but, wow..
2. Most drivers in Jersey have said to me when they picked me up "I am not from around here, so I don't know where I am and my GPS doesn't work..." or when they realize I want to go to NYC, they have (many not all drivers.
but many) love to spend the entire trip telling me how awful it is being a driver for Uber in Jersey..
3. Along the lines of the above issue, Several Jersey drivers have told me that they are constantly being pulled over and being given tickets by the police....because they aren't supposed to be driving in the area. One driver ask me if he could drop me off a block away from the train station so the cops wouldn't see him.
4. THIS SHOULD BE NUMBER ONE. I have had numerous trips that showed in the GPS Screenshot that were ZIG ZAG fictional versions of the trip I took. One acually had my trip go from 54th street to the Holland Tunnel, back up to 54th Street and then through to the Hudson RIver from 54th Street to Jersey by the Holland Tunnel before I got home. In reality, the trip was from 54th Street to the Holland Tunnel. Another one was from the Lower East Side to Holland Tunnel, but they showed that we started from the Lower East Side go around the FDR to Holland Tunnel, then back to the starting point on the Lower East Side and then back to the Holland Tunnel to Jersey. After this happened two times, I found it a few more times SUBTLY happening and making my trips slightly pricier than they should have been. Each time this happened , the customer service people apologized, had no explanation, blamed it on some kind of fluke in the system, and credited me the amount back...or even refunded me....but, it keeps happening. PLEASE everyone really view your screenshots of your trips, they are loaded with errors.
5. Once driver dropped me off at the correct location, but did not turn off the ride until like 2 miles later, so I was charged extra.
6. I have had surge price charged when surges were reportedly over...this is the ONE complaint I have made over and over again, and they refuse to acknowledge it actually happened. In fact THIS complaint is the one that made me decide Uber is truly a scam. Sure they may refund some errors over and over again,but...they will turn around and blame YOU for accepting a ride you truly thought would be a different ride.
7. One driver made me fuming and i mean fuming mad when they knew they took a wrong turn and mocked me because I did not tell him when to turn, because I "said" I knew the route. While I did, he also had his GPS on, and he knew...he then started laughing at me "hahahahaahah, you don't know, you said you knew, but you don't know....." This ride, which was normally $41-$46 was $78, due to traffic, a driver who refused to use the GPS to look at traffic and actual turns, and then a surge pricing I was told was over... MOCKED and then the customer service people have destroyed my trust in the system. I am appalled at how this trip was handled and how they just don't care one ounce about their customers.
8. I never ever ordered an uber XL in my life. I had no idea they even exsisted. Somehow the system ordered me one and refused to give me the normal rate...they admitted the system chose the XL and I did not, but, I never ever saw I ordered one until I realized my trip that should have been $31-$33 was over $38. So mean about it.
9. GPS really messes up too often, wrong turns, wrong locations and numerous times drivers were in the wrong location and just showing somewhere else on the map...making me late or forcing me to call them, and be confused. I even had a driver once NO WHERE near me claiming I never showed up and charged me a cancellation fee when he KNEW he went to the wrong location.
10. Occassioally the drivers own their mistakes and fix them themselves, however, too many, and i mean too many HATE uber and b***h to the customers...
There were just too many system errors that they blamed on me. Too many drivers who love to complain. Too many legal issues. And, well, the only way to deal with customer service is to email, and it's become more and more and more useless.
Uber, goodbye. It was GREAT in the beginning, but you started lying and cheating me.
On May 9th at 10:48 PM CDT, a client named Mike and his girlfriend were in my vehilcel for a ride in accordance with the terms and operations of Uber. Previoulsy I had been PROMISED in the exact words that there was no disputing a cleaning fee request. They barf, they pay.
However... being the nice guy I am, I TRIED to clean it up to spare them AND to prevent damage to my car electrics. When I realized that was not going to do it I reluctancty explained and the client understood and INITIALED his agreement for the charge. As it was my first time, I was dismayed to find these fools wanted a pic of the vomit all over my car. Like ANY sane person will sit there leaving vomit on their beloved vehicle just to take a picture while it seems into your electronis and carpet.
So... I took what picture I could and again explained fully the stench is awful and the customer SIGNED OFF on the charge... Uber now says it's only for extreme damage (who rates that???)... either way I am suing these scumbags and naming every person in the company whom I have dealt with just to make sure they all feel the pain. They put on a good show until they have to come through on their promisses then it's like magic they dissappear like a turn down a toilet.
Uber has been repeatedly screwing drivers and clients out of hard earned money. I worked for a partner company that provides rental taxis associated with uber and witnessed their abuse fisrt hand. At first I kept recieveing complaints about Uber not paying the drivers correctly and charging more for the vehicles rent than actually agreed upon. The next issue that was brought to my attention was that if a driver did not make enough money to cover the weekly rental he would not recieve a payment statement (even though the missing funds were directly deducted from the drivers bank account ).
All the while I worked with the partner company I was referring potential customers to work for uber. I would convince them to drive for Uber and recieve $25-$250 for each driver that went active. I was flagged and all future payments have been stopped because i referred over 1,000 drivers in 3 months.
I was only paid on about 30. Matthew the operations manager called me and offered me a job doing exactly what i was doing for "substantially less money" I said i would consider after we cleared up the $5,000 that was being held. He said they were not going to pay and i refused the position. I was then told i had obtained the information fraudently from my work place whom they would contact and that there could be criminal charges brought against me.
This was over 7 weeks ago. I still keep getting payment statements of all my referred drivers. I have been taken advantage of and cheated after all the work I put into promoting the company and assisting them with active approved drivers. I have numerous emails between Matthew , Ben and myself. Unfortunately, I will have no choice but to sue for what i rightfully earned plus damages at this point.
This is a terrible company who just uses everyone they come across. From customers being overcharged to drivers being underpaid and advocates being treated like dirt.
I was picked up at Starbucks 2nd driver first one never showed. I called no est payment was after .about 1mile into ride still no word. I asked to get out. He said no problem I will take you for free. I asked again to get out, same reply. 12 miles later i had 40 $ ready he said free.
