This report is about Tricoci University cosmetology and beauty school in Chicago, Illinois, and intended to alert potential students of the huge mistake they would be making if they decided to give that institution their money to "educate" them. My family has owned a salon since I was an infant; I have been around this industry my entire life, and I know several girls who have attended Tricoci University. I have heard the most horrendous stories about the way the teachers behave, the way the students are treated, and how completely and absolutely unorganized and unprofessional this institution is. I have heard the following stories directly from students themselves: Teachers do not keep track of students' progess for sign-offs and will pretend to have no knowledge of them being completed. You better watch your back and keep track of all your progess and have proof if you want to graduate on time, because they lose your sign-off sheets and say they have no recollection of your work. At which point you are stuck and have to do it all over again and potentially not graduate on time, and time is of the essence when you have that many sign-offs to complete. Teachers are known to gang up on students and verbally abuse them, harshly criticizing their appearance to the point of cruelty. Did you enjoy that in high school? When the mean girls made fun of your makeup or your hair or the way you dressed? Well, if you did, then Tricoci University is the place for you. Several times I've heard stories of teachers throwing students under the bus in front of clients, giving them one kind of instruction, and then lying later saying "no, I didn't tell you to do that, that's wrong" and blatently lying to cover their own butts. People I know have had their very expensive equipment and tools stolen from them, money taken from out of their purses, and nothing can be done about it. Teachers are constantly threatening, disrespecting, and abusing students all the while giving them a mediocre education in a very unprofessional atmosphere. The general manager at Libertyville is known for terminating students weeks before graduation for ridiculous reasons. They will send you home and you will miss hours if you don't have the correct amount of makeup on, or they will tell you to change how you wear your makeup if they think it's "ugly". The mindset on beauty and attitude of this particular beauty school is very narrow and extreme conservative, so if you are someone who thinks outside the box or has an "edgier" look, you will most likely be targeted and not enjoy your time here. It takes a very thick skin and tough attitude to survive this environment. If you have any doubts, talk to some people who have either graduated from there, or to clients who have gone there and I guarantee you will here more bad stories than good. There is excessive drama constantly displayed, even by the teachers and managers. This institution has a very traditional and conservative opinion on what is "beautiful" and does not support the beiief that they are many kinds of beauty in this world. The narrowminded beliefs of Tricoci University are going against the movement to help build esteem in young people today, especially young women. This school destroys girls' self esteem in an attempt to mass produce clones of Mario's vision - a very narrow, pitiful vision. If you want to be inspired as a hair stylist or cosmetologist, and learn from people who will support your efforts as an artist, do yourself a favor and go somwhere else for beauty school. Anywhere else. You will be so glad you did. My suggestion is that you do as much research as you can about any institution before deciding to give them your hard earned money. This is your future and your passion- make sure you are in an environment that is going to foster your growth, not stunt it and suck the life out of you. Do not waste your time or money on Tricoci University.
