I decided to go to Transmission King in Plantation Florida after speaking with three other transmission shops. Transmission King website is www.transmissionkingfl.com so you know which one I am referring to. Any way, the first three shops I spoke with male representatives who all gave me a diagnosis over the phone after I revealed what was wrong with my vehicle. My vehicle's gear shift was slipping out of fifth gear into neutral while drive on 595 to work doing about 70 miles per hour certainly not safe.
Every male tranmission mechanic told me that on a manual transmission there are three synchronizer that the gear shift uses to switch gears and from my description of the problem it the fifth gear synchronizer but sys its best to replace all three synchro kits since the transmission is open and that would not cost more than 900.
00 for aftermarket or refurbished parts.
I asked all three shops how long it would it take them to repair a 2001 Dodge Neon manual transmission all shops said this was very easy and would not take more than three to four hours to remove transmission and no more than three days to complete. All shops said they would charge 350 to 400 dollars to remove transmission and that amount would be deducted from any work needed. For example if work to be done totaled 1500.00 they would subtract the original price of 400.00 and I would owe 1100.00
I decided to Call Transmission King in Plantation Flordia and spoke with a woman by the name of Cheryl, oh my goodness this elderly woman was so pleasant, nice and charming I thought she was honest just based on her demeaner but did she sock it to me.
Cheryl told me that she would charge 400.00 just to take out and replace transmission if I decided not to get work done and this charge would be deducted from total bill if transmission was done at Transmission King in Plantation Florida. I left my car there and picked up a rental car from Enterprise since I worked not to far from Transmission King in Plantation Florida.
Anyway three days went by and no word on my vehicle so I called on the fourth day and pressed the issue that I really needed my vehicle and this was taking longer than expected. Cheryl explained that her transmission builder got sick and she had to send my transmission to another builder to get the repairs done and needed my okay. I asked Cheryl what was the cost to fix she told me 2200 for new factory parts and 1667 for refurbished synchro kits plus a brand new clutch assembly. I told Cheryl since my car was a 2001 to repair transmission with refurbished parts and install brand new clutch assembly for 1667 and let me know when it was ready.
So, I called quite a few times to check on the vehicle's progress and Cheryl told me she would call me when the car was repaired and road tested by her mechanic. I got the call late in the evening on the fifth day that my vehicle was at Transmission King in Plantation Florida was ready to go.
I was ecstatic, I didn't not want to buy a new car and get back into car payments. When I arrived at Transmission King in Plantation Florida. I spoke with Cheryl and paid a total of 1767.00 without getting the 400.00 deducted from the total bill. So, in my mind my vehicle was going to run exceptionally well. Surprise!!! While driving off the car lot at Transmission King in Plantation Florida, I could barely get the gear shift to go in First gear and this went on until the following day. Not Happy!!!
Remember, I took my car in because the gear shift was slipping out of fifth gear into neutral and Cheryl at Transmission King told me I needed a new clutch assembly and rebuilt transmission would solve my problems. Wrong! When I called the following morning and explained to Cathy the problem she responded by scolding me saying, "this is what happened when you rush my mechanics to finish your car. So, she is blaming me for the car not being repaired properly the first time? Really???
Wow! I would not recommend anyone not even my worst enemy to take their car to Transmission King at 770 N State Road 7, Plantation, Florida 33317. Phone number 954-581-8000. www.transmissionkingfl.com South Florida residents and surrounding area beware!
