Received a phone call asking me if I was interested in selling my property in Florida. When I indicated I may be interested in selling, I received a second call from a "gentleman" Shawn Kane who told me he had investors looking for property in my area and indicated that he could get me $88,700 for my building lot.
He led me to believe that he had a buyer waiting for my answer so he could purchase my land. The fee for this was only $982.00. He told me that his company had a perfoect rating with the BBB with zero complaints. I told him that I needed to investigate a little more and he said he would call me back.
I did check out the company and they do show zero complaints, but it also indicated that they were not affiliated with the BBB. There was no other information on the company other than his web site.
When he called back, I asked him how the sale would work. He told me that there was no up front cost to me and that his fee would come out of the sale proceeds. He then said that he would need a credit card to charge his fee to.
I said that I thought there was no upfront cost, and he started a fast talk where he said that there was no up front cost, since the money for the fee came from my credit card company and not me. We went back and forth a couple of times until I finally assured myself that this was a scam and told him we were done talking. He turned extremely nasty and insulting and I hungup on him.
Further checking found a complaint on this forum from yeaterday and a complaint in 2012 about Shawn Kane doing business as Resort Solution Trust pulling the same scam
I allowed shawn to help me sell my land just a couple months ago and it was taken care of in less then 30 days. Maybe I just had a great experience with him. He was very helpful and informative. I will even recommend him and his firm to my friends and co-workers. I think you probably would have had a similar experience with him, if you would have tried to sell with them. You probably didn't like having to use a credit card, which I can admit that I don't either, for that matter I doubt anyone does. But it was completely necessary in selling my land. I just figured that any legit company would charge fees for there service. Im sorry for your experience and wish you the best of luck.
