According to The Car Place's website, "All cars are safety checked, fully serviced and come with a 60 day warranty. We do complete rigorous safety checks to make sure our cars are in top condition."
The car I bought from them had passed emissions, yet the day after I picked it up, I had the check engine light come on due to emissions related issues. I had the problem fixed on my own.
The second, and more concerning problem has to do with the fact that they sold me an unsafe car. When I put gas in, there was a strong fuel smell inside and out. I came to find out that there was a hole rusted through the gas tank, and it was leaking gas. That's a serious issue, I believe, that should have been found during the safety inspection. I also had that fixed, by replacing the gas tank, on my own.
The third problem I have with them is that they charged me $199 to go to the DMV to transfer the plates over, and they didn't do it. I was called an hour before I was supposed to pick the car up and told that "the DMV couldn't read the insurance information" so they couldn't register the car.
I was given three options.
1: Get a new card to him and wait until Tuesday. I was supposed to pick it up Friday.
2: Get a new card and go to the DMV myself.
3: Put my plates on, bring the car home, and go to the local DMV.
I got a card and went myself. He then refused to refund the charge, saying "he did the job." I have since disputed the charge, and he changed his story to say "(I) owed property taxes, so they couldn't register the car" I have documentation to show that is not the case, and am sending it to the credit card company, It's included here because I think that this is all poor business practice and should be known
