I have been dealing with Ted's for over 3 years now and one of the employees was telling another person my personal information about my account with them. They told someone that I never make my payments on time and they always have to take my vehicle. I purchased my vehicle late last year and last month I started having problems with it in which I feel that the vehicle should have been thoroughly checked before I drove it off the lot. The computer in the other vehicle is bad and not working right. MY PERSONAL BUSINESS is just that MY PERSONAL BUSINESS!
We were watching TV and saw an add on Television that said "$99 and a Job can get you a Quality Used Car" from Ted's Used Car's. at the time our Dodge Durango was having Transmission issues and we needed a Car to get back and forth to work, so we took note that these car's were priced as if these were refurbished turn in's from quality companies, and thier on site mechanics gave us some confidence that they check these cars out...We couldnt have been more wrong.
Bait and Switch
I am disabled and rather big and unable to go into Ted's myself, so my 72yo father and 18vo daughter went in to purchase a car with he understanding that we needed a Minni Van, We explained this to the Dealer, but they insisted that there was no Van available at the stroudsburg Location and that the Vans at the Saylorsburg location were not available at that time, even though they had them posted on the internet site...they kept pushing my father and daughter to purchase a Ford Taurus which we told them would not suit our needs, but we had to have a Car the next day to make sure my wife could get to work. According to my father he felt badgered and ended up signing paperwork for the car. It turned out that they required $350.00 rather then the advertised $99 from thier televised add, then within 1 week they charged his account an additional $350.00 for the next month's loan price. The only positive from this experience was we belived that we were getting a "Quality used vehicle" as in a Vehicle that had one owner before us that was lightly used according to Car fax, and had a 3 month Warranty with Ted's so we thought that this Car would get us through at least a year before having to worry about a ton of issues...again we couldnt have been more wrong.
Junkyard Repairs
Within the first few weeks the drivers side door would not shut closed, and the check engine light came on...my daughter and wife told me that they had experienced transmission slippage and there was a Class 3 Transmission leak under the car We brought the car into Ted's base don the Warranty, they claimed they fixed the Transmission issue and replaced a sensor, But that the door shutting properly was simply the cold weather. My daughter brought the car home...within a few weeks my wife and daughter again told me they were having transmission issues and the Car wouldn't start properly, so we called and made an appointment to have the car checked again, my wife and daughter went in and they told them they had fixed everything. about a week later approx 4 months after we purchased the car the Car died at the auto Insurace carriers parking lot so we had the car towed straight to Ted's they told us we needed a new starter and that it wasnt covered under the warranty so we paid $140 for this issue. The Car ran for a day when my wife and daughter told me the car still was having issues starting and that the transmission leak was back. I immeadiatly called Ted's they told me they were booked for 3 weeks on Car repair jobs so I sent my father to FORD to have the car checked out. Ford told us that the ball joint and tie rod on the car had never been repaired and it was somthing that Ted's should have seen on thier first inspection...they also informed us that the transmission in the car was and I quote a "Junkyard Transmission" and that the transmission pan that was attached to the transmission was warped and that Ted's used RVT to patch it rather then put in a proper new gasket and a new OEM pan which is why the car continued to have leakage issues. when we confronted Ted's with the report from Ford they agreed to cover the transmission pan, and the balljoint and tie rod but stated that the other repairs would be charged, and then they informed me that they would charge us $100 for the warranty related issues because there is supposedly a deductible written into the warranty, added to $140 for the starter plus tax we still ended up out of pocket $255 for issues that should have been taken care of under the warranty period.
In Summary
In summary we didnt get the car we wanted, Im out $255 on issues that should have been handled before the Car was purchased if a proper inspection had been done on a vehicle that was claimed to be "Quality" especially given the price point of roughly $9000. We didnt get the advertised $99 down price point nor the customary month before the first payment was due. after reading over the past issues others have had on rip off report I feel sad that I hadnt read here sooner, and I will not make that mistake again.
