My wife and I brought our 2004 Pathfinder in STS Mahwah for a tire air leak and muffler repair. I mentioned to the service writer (Zack) that the sectional pipe between the muffler and the resonator was previously welded and they would need to either weld or clamp the new muffler. After asking me if I was a mechanic, I told him I have worked on cars along with many other mechanized equipment for over 40 years. He mentioned to the other service writer, be careful, this fellow know about cars.
Receiving a call a couple hours later, I decided to go back and see what they found. They brought me into the repair bay where I met the (unfriendly) mechanic and was told the tire was fine, I needed front brakes, rotors and wheel bearings. I also needed major exhaust repairs (they don't clamp or weld). There was also an oil leak I omitted on the initial visit and noticed it was coming from the oil pump. When I pointed that out, they told me I needed an oil pump without even looking. I asked if there was any fittings or seals that could be the issue and the mechanic , annoyed, walked away. I asked why Rotors? Couldn't they cut them? They said it could make it too thin, but I told them that these rotors were never cut before. No response.
Oh yeah, 4 tires was also recommended. $2800 was the estimate (without the oil pump)
I removed the vehicle and brought it to a trusted mechanic 30 miles away near where I work. He clamped a new muffler and checked the vehicle. Oil pump fitting loose. Brakes, rotors and wheel bearings were FINE. No replacement was needed.
The service writer admits that the mechanic is unsociable and has his own corner. he doesn't like people and they have a hard time dealing with him but he is the BEST they have. Probably because the idiot condemns everything and the service writer don't know enough to question him (or may be trained to only accept what he says) and sell services that people done need.
You decide. $2,800 or $200
This is the 2nd time I have been back since the place sold and the 1st time made me a little suspicious, so I paid a lot of attention to this incident and wanted it to be positive. However, the truth is the truth and these guys are ripping the public off.
Beware of this company and stay away and tell others.
