The patients right statement at saint marks hospital states that you have the right to have medical procedures or conditions explained to you, in a way you understand, and that you are allowed to decline medical treatment if you wish. When I was a patient at st marks women's center Doctor Lori Lindsay and I agreed to a vaginal procedure (artifical rupture of membranes). After that procedure she performed another one without any discussion of it beforehand. She placed a pressure catheter into my uterus without permission. I said "what is that?!" when she did it, so she knew that I did not understand what was happening, and then she said "oh its just a pressure catheter" and continued to insert it inside me. I spent my childhood being raped so I am sensitive about things being shoved inside my body without permission. I complained to the complaint department and they said that it was 'appropriate treatment". They messed up my son's birth certificate and have refused to correct it. I sent them a form with the correct information and they still submitted incorrect names. I now have to pay money to fix it.
