On 4-2-15, I went in for a porcelian crown. I was told by the dental personnel that the procedure was not covered by my dental insurane. I paid $550.00 on a credit card which they opened and charged to the credit card. I believe they own the Credit Card Company. The procedure was completed.
On 4-20-15, I received an Explanation Of Benefits from my insurance carrier. It stated Smile Care did indeed submit a claim for their services which were apparently covered. Their claim submitted was for $1,181.00. The EOB (Explanation of Benefits) stated they allowed charges of $400.00 per their contract with Smile Care. They paid Smile Care $250.00 and stated my responsibility was only $150.00 (remember, I already had paid Smile Care $550.00) but the insurance company didin't know this. Smile Care now had $800.00 when the maximum allowable amount was $400.00. A case of "double dipping".
I immediately personaly went to Smile Care. The girl (Maribell?) stated they just received the check from the insurance company along with a copy of the EOB and apologized. She stated she would put through a credit request to their Corporate Office for $400.00 (the $550.00 less the $150.00 co-payment which I would have owed had I not already paid it). She said I would get a charge back on the credit card in 6 to 8 weeks.
On 6-22-15, I contacted Smile Care and told them I still have not received the charge back. She told me to contact the Corporate Office at (813)288-1999. I proceeded to leave a voice mail message with the "Patient Support Mgr."
The next day I left a second message. Later that day, I received a call from a Tracy Cepada from Coast Dental . They apparently own Smile Care. Her Telephone# is (714)210-0245. She stated that she was processing the request and it should be completed in one week. At this point, I thought everything was taken care of.
Approximately one month later, I receievd the credit Card bill. There was no charge back. I have since left three telehone messages for Tracy and haven't received anye return calls. I also called the "Patient Support Mgr" and left two additional messages but no return calls.
It has now been 3 months since they said they would complete the charge back. I don't believe they have any intentions of doing so. I looked on the internet and their were numerous other complaints against Coast Dental. They are not even members of the Better Business Bureau. Their conduct has been very unprofessional. The credit card company does not allow charge backs. This is probably because I believe they are owned or affiliated with Coast Dental.
