Shutterstock advertises several pricing plans for purchasing images. One is a pay-as-you-go. Another is a monthly subscription. And another is a license plan for high-volume impressions of images.
If you purchase a quantity of images with a pay-as-you go plan, once you download these images, your credit card gets charged again for the same amount of images.
I purchased two images and downloaded them immediately. It was all I needed. But my card was immediately charged for two more.
Shutterstock sends you an email telling you you're on a subscription plan, but if you download the images right away, you don't get that email before you get charged again.
I sent a complaint to Shutterstock and requested a refund, which they did give me. The ripoff is that unsuspecting will get placed on a subscription plan without being notified ahead of time that that's what they're signing up for.
