As a single mom with two kids, i don’t have a great deal of time to go shopping on my own without the kids. We took a trip to visit family this past week and while the kids were with their aunt and uncle, i ventured out to check out the local scenery in san jose. The city is beautiful as well as very busy and i can see why many places here get such rave reviews all the time. There are so many amazing places to shop and hang out with family all around the city.
There are also places like san jose bmw which apparently hires some pretty big pigs to work with the public. I’m writing this review because i was so disgusted when i walked into that place last week to look around.
I own a harley davidson street bike as well as a smaller, and much older yamaha maxima 400. I thought i would look at the bmw’s since the shop was there and i had a couple hours to myself.
It was a huge mistake to go there alone and to be honest, i felt like i had stepped into some creepy high school with little boys full of testosterone that couldn’t handle the fact that a woman with a short skirt and long legs was standing in front of them. Had i been someone trying to run a scam on unsuspecting fools, i almost bet i could have played a scam on one of those immature baffoons in a heartbeat because they seemed more interested in what my bra cup size was than the fact that i was trying to discuss horsepower with them.
When i walked in, someone whistled. Literally, someone i could not see behind the counter whistled! i felt like a woman walking past construction workers on a tv show or something. I fully expected someone to walk out and apologize although no one ever did that.
Instead, when i bent over to check out the pipes on one of the bikes, some guy again behind the counter where i could not see him) whistled at me. Who teaches their employees to whistle when women walk in to shop? Or maybe this was an owner. I have no way to know since the immature person never walked out to the showroom floor. It made me very uncomfortable.
I had on a skirt because i had just had lunch with my sister and when i go out, i dress nice. If a man finds me attractive, hey, that is great as long as he doesn’t hide behind a counter whistling at me like some peeping tom or something. Even more importantly however, no matter how attractive a guy finds a woman, whistling at her when she walks into your business, or especially if she is bent over while wearing a skirt is far from appropriate behavior whether you are in the workplace or even just out on the street.
I felt like a piece of art on display and definitely did not feel like a customer who was being shown any respect at all. As a female rider, this is a motorcycle business that i would never even consider walking into again. As i said, it was like being around a high school boy who couldn’t control himself and it was a very uneasy few minutes spent looking at bikes and accessories that i will never buy. The worst thing is that i needed a new helmet and never got to ask about them because the whistler made me feel so uneasy that i had to leave.
