A pop up ad appeared below a news article I was reading on the internet. I have never responded to any such solicitation; however, the ad was offering Renuva Brand facial creams/serums, and like products for the costs of shipping and handling. Since I have very dry skin, I provided my debit card number etc for the indicated shipping and handling fees of $5.95 and $4.95 which seemed appropriate. And I was seriously looking for something that could successfully moisturize my skin. My checking account was debited on 12 November 2014. Two boxes arrived, however I am unsure of the exact date and the elapsed time span of responding to the ad and the actual receipt date. To my surprise, my account was debited yet again, this time for $89.47 and $94.54 for a total of $184.04! An amount that I can ill afford (I'm 73 yrs old and have restricted income.)These charges were never authorized!!! I called the number on the transaction description which appeared on my bank statement and was advised that my "trial period" was over and thus I was responsible for the costs of the product. I was outraged by this egregious action on the part of the "vendor" RNE*RenuvaDerm. These terms and conditions were never disclosed!
I replied to the phone number indicated in the debit transaction which appeared to be a call center rather than the Company itself. I asked how do you determine when a trial period ends without knowing when my product was received? I indicated that I had been away, and the clerk incredulously advised that I should have advised them that I was away!!!Glad I didn't as they probably would have attempted to break into my home when I was away.
Had the costs been consistent with the pricing for the same/similar brand on the internet, the issue would have become moot point. Based on the amateurish labels, I am not even sure that this is the real product as advertised, but rather a counterfeit and a poor one at that.
The Attorney General for the state where this company is operating will be notified; but in the interim I would be very cautious in replying to similar offers.
