I purchase what was said (by RoGallery/Robert Rogal) to be a painting by Eugene Boudin at one of RoGallerys auctions. At the time they had NO disclaimers, relitive to the auction. The bidding started at $14,000 (why start at $14,000 for a painting if you are not sure or your misrepresenting it). I subsequently paid $20,000 for the painting after being told it was authentic. When I recived the painting in the mail, They had afixed a new RoGallery sticker on the back stating the painting substantiating that the paiinting was by Eugen Boudin, circa 1850, signed. When I recieved the painting, I did not do any close inspections because it was from a gallery, and what galery would knowingly sell art that was not authentic. About a year went by and i had an oppertuninty to purchase other art, but needed some capital to do so.

I immediately contacted Robert Rogal at RoGallery, and asked them if they would like to purchase the painting.

This is of course, was after bing told the painting was worth up to $25,000. When I told Robert Rogal (the Gallery Owner/Director)that I would offer to sell it back to him at a sizeable reduction in price than what I paid, he immediatly asked to try to sell it on his site, but was unable to purchase the painting because he just "purchased 47 paintings". With that I decided to take my painting to several prominate art dealers in New Yourk city to sell. Upon showing the painting to a highly respected gallery owner, I was told to take it back to RoGallery, and that the painting was fake. It was not in the Catalogg Resione (not in the 3 currently available). This left me very confused and very angry. The helpful gallery owner also said that the painting was signed in red and Eugen Boudin ONLY signed his works in black. I then took the painting to him my hands and started to inspect it closely. Upon further inspection, I could see that the back of the canvas was treated with a chemical to artificially make it look old. you can actually see where the chemical was brushed on. The painting was not removed from the frame prior, so you can actually see NEW white canvas beyond the brush strokes. All in all it was a mess. I even sent the painting to Sothebys impressionist group to see what type of price I could expect if I were to sell the painting. Sotheby's declined to even accept the painitng.

I tried to contact Robert Rogal at RoGallery for several days, but I was told by a gallery employee that Robert had gone to a art show in Florida for the weekend. During this period, Robert Rogal was informed of this issue but refused to return my calls. I tried to contat him Monday morning and I reached him on his cell (he had no clue it was me calling). When I spoke to him he tried to tell me that they DO NOT inspect or Authenticate every painting that they sell, however they advertise them as genuine works by very expensive artists. They are lot listed as "After" or "attributed to" as all honest and respectible gallerys would do in the even they were not sure of its authentisisty. NOT RoGallery, They completely listed this paining as by Eugen Boudin. I was also told that he received the painting from a consigner, after being told that they purchase their art, much like the 47 paintings Robert Rogal stated he just purchased. When I pressed Robert to provide me with a refund for the FAKE painting, he said he would RELIST IT for me in an effort to get me paid. I explained to him that I would under NO circumstances allow him and RoGallery to again misrepresent the paining to another person, which Rober Rogal had NO issue doing. When I told him this he said that I needed proof that the painting was not genuine before he would do anything.

As promised I sent Robert Rogal and RoGallery the email form the dealer stating it was not authentic and that I had an email from Sothebys, stating the same. I have tried to reach Robert Rogal and RoGallery in an effort to refund me the money as I have complied with ALL foolish requirements, and can not gt a return call from Rogallery or Robert Rogal. They have taken $20,000 by knowingly mis representing this piece of art. Recently Robert Rogal added T&C's to his auctions that state that they are not responsible for genuineness of works of art, however he CONTINUES to offer art for sale stating it is authentic, when they are fakes. BEWARE OF ROGALLERY AND ROBERT ROGAL as they are selling fake art over the internet via auction houses like Live Auctioneers, Invaluable, etc.

rogallery rude

I called Rogallery to ask a few questions about a limited edition print that was for sale on the site. When I asked if he knew the edition number of the print, he acted like it was a stupid question. I couldn't believe his tone when he said "what difference does it make?" I had to explain that some collectors do care about it. Suffice it to say I will not be dealing with Rogallery again for any reason, buying or selling, and I'm VERY glad I found out now rather than after getting involved in any way.
