For $1.99 Resume Genius advertises you can use one of their templates and receive feedback on your finished resume. The number of available templates was limited but I found one I thought could work. Took two times to enter data because you have to save TWICE to preserve information. So I wasted about an hour entering information I thought was being saved but wasn't. I used their chat support to confirm what had happened. Could be a better interface but for $2 it was acceptible. Becuase it took so long to enter information I hadn't polished the finsih product by the time I quit for the day. Nevertheless Resume Genius sent boiler plate feedback tellingme what was wrong with my resume and that for $99 I could have a professional redo it. Becuase the resume wasn't close to being ready to have it looked at it by their experts, the feedback was useless. Given the feedback I imagine they use some kind of automated review system to review reseumes. Still it was just $2 so no big deal. Today when I looked at my Visa billl I saw a charge from them for $39.95. Apparently I was supposed to call and cancel a service that you are automatically signed up for when you opt for the $1.99 template. I wasn't aware of this. I called their office and was told the information about this service was given to me several times. I don't recall understanding this was part of the $1.99 template deal. I was not refunded my money so just cancelled the service and confirmed I would not be receiving another charge. Resume Genius gets my $39.95 for absolutely nothing in return. This company claims to service unemployeed people but has no qulams about taking 40 bucks for nothing from people who don't have a job. I want to warn other people to steer clear of this $1.99 offer. It's a trick.
This company has been beyond troublesome. Let me start in the beginning, I was polishing up my resume when I realized I wanted it to be perfect. I have a learning disability that makes margins and anything requiring visual spacing troublesome so I went online and googled free resume builder. Resume genius came up.
I had finished my new and perfect resume then came time to print it out, they asked for my credit card information. I thought this was unusual. I had two options one of paying $1.95 for two weeks or $7.95 a month for a year. Obviously I didnt read the fine print, It was $7.95 cheaper than paying the monthly fee by paying a full annual fee of $95. I had only had this program for less than an hour when the reciept came.
Words do not even begin to describe the flood of emotions that came my way when a free resume builder sent me a bill for almost $100. I immediatley called customer service asking for a refund and canceling my account. The customer service agent was more than willing to cancel my account but was unable to give me a refund. I asked to speak with her supervisor, the manager was in a meeting but I could email her.
I had asked for her phone number and was told that the company only had one phone number and the fastest way to get in touch with the manager would be through email. A couple hours later a customer service representative called and asked if I had any concerns,
I explained how I had only been on the program for less than an hour and would like a refund she said that I would not be able to recieve a refund as it was against company policy but I was more than welcome to share the program with family and friends. I asked to be tranfered to someone above her. I was, the supervisor said the same thing the customer service representative said, I asked if there were a direct phone number to reach his boss he said that this was an internet based company. We continued our little back and forth and he finally started to laugh at me.
Fortunatley, I wrote down the email to the manager, hoping she would be able to do something about the situation. I emailed the manager told her about how I had only had the program for less than an hour before canceling and how the supervisor laughed at me while on the phone.
The customer service agent who had provided me with the managers email made it sound like I would have to wait a few days to recieve a reply. I did not recieve a reply from the manager.
I saw that the company had a facebook page and the facebook page had a messaging portion. I had messaged them saying I had a question, their response was to contact customer support.
Here is where my relationship with Resume Genius doesnt seem to end, about two weeks after my incident I recieved an email saying my trial was almost over. I called resume genius asking what this was (I had just about given up hope on ever seeing my money again) and the customer service agent said that there was an error it was not for me and I could not get my money back. I get an email from the manager (who finally responded to my email) but she did not adress the behavior of the employee just that I could not get my money back.
I had also recieved an unexpected email from John, the supervisor,
He also said I could not get my money back but did not adress the strange email until I did. He said he checked with his companies fraud department and they never sent it. He did not apologize for the confusion or ensure me that my money is safe.
After Realizing that my money was not coming back I started to accept it. But the strange email worries me that I have trusted the wrong people with my credit card information and it frightens me to think of what other information they have access to.
Same old story. Do not provide your credit card info. They will charge you 39.99 monthly after 10 days even if you cancel prior. Going to the bank to file a dispute.
I used the trial version to build a resume and after finally looking at my online credit card statement realized i had been paying a monthly subscription that i apparently agreed to when i did the trial. this is such a deliberate means to collect fees through switch and bait. i racked up nearly $400 in fees.
when i did a live chat the responses seemed scripted which led me to beieve this is a common complaint they receive and are prepared to respond in their "we know and we don't care, sucker" way. it's obvious from all these entries that i am correct - always should check rip-off report first!! - and that they have no intention of changing this unethical but very effective practice.
they were very clear that contacting my cc company would not help and that they are prepared to litigate (in other words, don't bother, you have no recourse)
There should be some legal vehicle for shutting this type of thing down. If they cared one bit whether you were getting your money's worth or were pleased with the service, they would solicit for this info or at least upon seeing that you haven't touched it in the whole 10 months subscribed, checking in to see why. if they had such a method in place, that might, at least, be somewhat legit. I just cancelled today and if does not go into effect, i'll be back to follow-up with a new report.
Resume Genius lures you in with a 2 week trial for $195 then hits you with a $39.95 monthly charge. No where I could find was it noted that you had to cancel the "subscription". Then when you call to get the charges refunded they only off you a partial refund and then only if you "guarantee not to file with your bank as a fraudulent charge"DO NOT use them to do your resume as it will cost a lot more than they advertise!!!!
I used 1 template on the Resume Genius website. The offer stated it would cost 1.99 to download. There was no mention of any other charges. However 3 months later I notice I am being charged 39.95 when I called the terrible customer service, I was told that after 14 days I should have cancelled or 34.59 would be charged tp my account monthly for the service. I told him that I did not see that message anywhere when I signed up and all he could say was it was there and that they have a very strict refund policy so all he could do was cancel my account. I feel completely ripped off especially because this is a resume company. I am obviously out of a job and looked to resume genius for help to better my resume so that I can find employment. I cannot afford these unessecary charges. Also the customer service person I spoke with was incorrect about the charges when he stated the charges were 34.59 a month when actually I was charged 39.95 per month. I would advise anyone thinking about using them not to, unless you do not care about paying additional monthly fees.
Resumegenius.com advertised a free resume service. I spent some time entering a resume. Then when I was done I was told I had to pay $4.95 AND sign up for ongoing service. I was still prepared to try it. But when I pressed preview button, nothing but the first page showed up and ALL the additional information was gone. Going back to previous page, selecting edit option --nothing worked. It was all gone. Complete waste of time.
DO NOT USE. Trial offer was $1.99 Charged additional $1.00 Without my knowledge. $39.95 charge14 days later after cancellation first 24 hours of trial. Called customer service explained that I had cancelled within the first 24 hours. Was told they had no resord of this and could I send a screen shot of my cancellation. How could I do this if my account had been cancelled? Absurd and knew at this point this company was using deceptive practices to deter customers from disputing the charges. I asked to speak to Adell's the customer service rep's supervisor. I was told she was in a meeting and would not be available for some time. I asked to speak to the accounting dept. They also were not availble. I told the rep that I would hold until someone was available and Adell the account rep hung up on me. Called back this time the customer service rep that answered was Betty. Funny Betty was Adell's supervisor who was not available just 1 minute earlier. You know these boiler room techniques are very old but effective if you let them deter you from receiving the money owed you.
Resume Genius you are a fraudualent company for using deceptive practices to offer a trial for $1.99 and charge an additional $1.00 without my knowledge. Then canceling your service within 24 hours and you then charge my account $39.95 14 days later like I never cancelled my account for a service that you claimed would only be $9.95 a month if I decided to keep your service.
I hope the people I report you to close your doors and let there be room for someone else's product that provides a service that people desire and are proud to pay the service charges every month.
This is a HORRIBLE company to deal with. They are a very dishonest company. I had used their services to write a "free" resume, which is nothing close to free. You think you are building a free resume until you go to print it out or download it. Only then are you advised of a charge to do this. They billed my credit card $1.95. (which I understood) I printed out my resume, signed in a week later to close the account and never heard from them again until I noticed they billed my credit card $39.95.
I immediately contacted the company to get this charge reversed to no avail. The company told me I did not cancel within the 14 day period, which I did (12.7.14) and they have a very strict policy about giving back refunds.
They told me I was accountable for all charges and denied my multiple requests for a refund.
What was ironic was when I logged back into Resume Genius before I contacted them about this charge, it showed I cancelled my "membership" well within the 14 day period (posted cancellation date of 12.9.14), however, once I disputed the charged, the post that was previously there showing the cancellation date of the 9th had been removed, and showed a different cancellation date of 12-23-14 which was well beyond the 14 day trial. They had no explanation for this, nor did they even address it when I brought it up to them.
I've noticed since this has happened, I am not the only one who has been defrauded by this company.
I will also be filing a complaint through the Attorney Generals Office in Delaware, and with my credit card company to dispute these charges.
This site is a scam, they will find a way to charge your card and fight you tooth and nail to hold onto your money. If they spent half the time making a better app instead of cheating people out of money they might have something valuable, instead they have a bad product and even worse service. Right now, you would be better off following Word's resume template and running away from these internet fraudsters.
You are better off getting a template from Word and writing your resume.
The resume provided was no better than those of Word, and they ended up charging me the full month "subscription fee" of $39.95 and would not provide any kind of refund even though I cancelled a few days later. Customer service is atrocious. Definitely not worth it. If you don't know how to write a resume, you are better off asking a college student to do one for you.

Horrible!
The templates are not at all user-friendly and the "free" support for resume-writing is a sham. I agree with others: steer clear of this company!

Resume genius is a giant sack of shit of a company and the only way they make their money is by tricking people into a non refundable 39.95.
