On November 18, 2014, Charles Thorpe, salesperson from Residential Gourmet came to our door guaranteeing he had the best, most delicious steaks and chickens money can buy. All natural and worth every penny. They looked pretty good frozen, so we bought them for $600. Few days later, we tried the steak (ribeye) and it was the most horrible piece of meat. We tried a different one the next night. Same thing. We tried the chicken the next day and they were jsut as bad. Texture was all wrong and tasted horrible.
Charles had ran out of brocures when he sold us the product, so it took us a couple days to track the company down for our money back. When we finally made contact with them (our 10th call), they said we had to contact them for our money back within 3 days. Charles, of course, didn't tell us that when he sold us the product as he went straight for the bank with our check. I told them they never answered their phones in the last few weeks! We fought over getting our money back for a month. They finally said we probably got a bad batch and they will replace them. That was almost a month ago and I call both Charles and the company daily (and send multiple emails per week) without any call back or responses.
These meats should be in the same aisle as dog food. I have a freezer full of this stuff and really want them to come pick it up and reimburseme me!
Residential Gourmet is a VERY POOR excuse of a business. They do not honor their brochure statements guarenting their products. I too succumed to the high presure sales pitch and wish I had taken the time to review this company. In my defense the salesman handed me their brochure which states the law on door to door sales. Guaranteeing me that I could change my mind when my spouse got home and cancel the entire purchase if we decided against it ! Their own brochure ( which is also the law on door to door sales) state that the consumer has a 3 day cooling off period in which, if you change your mind you can write the busisness with which you made your purchase from a letter of cancellation, and as long as they recieve it within 3 days you can cancel with a full refund. THIS IS A LAW. Which I did send a certified letter following my impulsive purchase the very next day!
You guessed it ! They refused to pick it up ...I have tracking numbers which show no one was willing to accept it at their main office! WOW!
The day after I made my purchase I regretted it. Sent my cancelation letter as I was instructed to do on the back of their brocure. I also followed up with a call to the salesman Rob (who left me his cell number on the back of my brochure) as to how to go about giving them their product back in a timely manner. Rob answered my call that one time but once he found out that I was canceling my order, has since blocked all calls from me. A TRULEY SHAFTING MOVE!
All calls to their main office in Cave Creek AZ have also gone un-returned. I have called and left messages numerous times. I was promised a call back the one time I actually got someone to answer their phone, guess what?! Never happened! S
URPRISE!!!
This company is HORRIBLE! Do not buy anything from them! Unfortunately until they get shut down people will continue to get scammed by their very persuasive , high pressure unethical sales pitch promising you everything to make a sale but not keeping their word.
We are a $200+ victim of Residential Gourmet company! Upon talking to many other citizens, we found many consumers with similar Residential Gourmet experiences. Residential Gourmet representives walked door-to-door (our rep drove an unmarked vehicle and had a freezer full of meats) and deceptively sold us meats containing additives that affect the meats taste and texture -our property also had a No Solicitation sign clearly posted. This rep sold the meats when AZ's Snowbird seniors (from WA, OR, Canada etc) briefly spend their winter here in AZ.
The Residential Gourmet rep used high-pressure, psychological sales tactics (i.e. offered
to make room in our freezer & sell his freezer and all his products; lowered package prices;
indicated meats were organic, made us feel sorry for him with a hardl uck story). The rep did not verbally/physically disclose the additives to us, as he only displayed the plastic-wrapped meats and not the box ingredient labels. We did not question if there were additives, as the rep said the meats were 'natural'. We obtained the 6 various-cut meat inner boxes (plus the outer box) after the rep tossed those in our trash bin.
After the sales rep wrote his cell phone # (answering service only, no return calls) and left the neighborhood, we grilled two cuts of the Residential Gourmet meats sold to us. We used no seasonings or marinades on the meats - the cooked meats had a mushy/spunge-like texture, were salty and had shrunk considerably. The person who bought the meats has Hypertension and cannot have salt. Neither of us continued eating the steaks after a few bites. We retrieved an inner item box, read the ingredient label (small print) & made a shocking discovery about the additives! We immediately placed numerous calls, emails in order to prevent our check from being cashed & to return remaining products back to Residential Gourmet-we offered to pay for the two cooked steaks. The two times we spoke with Residential Gourmet (one person identified himself as owner Brent Michaud), we were told that the sales rep would be contacted and Residential Gourmet would contact us. A few days later (after not hearing from Residential Gourmet) our bank notified us that Residential Gourmet had cashed our check! We notified law enforcement. We also sent a certified letter to Residential Gourmet- to no resolve.
The 'Premium Beef Ribeye' inner box label reads: Contains up to 12% solution of Ficin, water, sodium phosphate, salt, beef flavor, lemon powder. Processed for The Meat Man, Phoenix AZ 85009. U.S. inspected and passed by department of agriculture, Est. 27220. Outer box wording reads: American Harvest Boxed Beef Co. Inspected for wholesomness by U.S. dept of agriculture P-27220
This report is not about buyers remorse by spending $200+. We paid hard-earned money to Residential Gourmet (not Omaha Meats or Schwans Foods) for food we cannot consume and that was also deceptively marketed! Dont get taken! Dont believe me?...see this
