Went online to search for Hyatt reservations, nebulous search results caused me to get on Reservation Counter by mistake. Booked two rooms on one reservation for 4 nights each. Weeks later, I called Reservation Counter to reduce number of nights on one of the rooms, that's when the fun started, endless messed up reservations between Hyatt and Reservation Counter. Hyatt was unable to send confirmation of any changes, and Reservation System was never able to confirm the state of the reservation. I just wanted to know if my reservation was intact, but no confirmation was ever received. If you don't intend to make any changes to your reservation, then Reservation Counter might work for you, but if you might need to make a change, don't go down this rabbit hole.
The online system at www.reservationcounter.com let me "cancel" my hotel because I was too sick to travel. After I cancelled, it said my credit card had already been charged because it was too late to cancel. I called Reservation Counter customer service, and they confirmed the online system should not have let me cancel because it was too late to cancel.
I said "fine," and asked them to undo my cancellation so that another family member could use the room. After a long hold they informed me that I could not longer use the room because I cancelled it online, but that my credit card would still be charged for the room. I said, "So, you are telling me I have to pay for a room that you will not let me use?" "I'm afraid so, they said." Idiots. If it was too late to cancel, then their online system should not have let me cancel.
