I tried to find an apartment close to my work. Safe. In a good neighborhood, gated community. I have decent credit, no criminal history, good rental history but I was denied an apartment because I filed bankruptcy over nine (9) years ago. I contacted their rental history company and was told they have a stricter than most places criteria.
Did they try to stear me from one apartment or area in their complex no, did they not rent to mr because I'm single or a woman? No that's against fair housing. They legally discriminated against me for filing bankruptcy at a time when I was out of work for 6 months. And it occurred over nine years ago. Government agencies cannot discriminate against you because of filing bankruptcy but private companies can. Is it ethical or having integrity? Yes. Is it necessary if you have had good rental history since the blemish occurred? Why would it be? Mortgage underwriters can get you approved for a loan after 3 years. This type of stringent guidelines can only point to unfair treatment of customers.
