My computer screen periodically freezes. I cannot move the cursor. When I try to do so, I obtain a message from this company saying that I am experiencing a computer virus and to immediately call their phone number. They advertize that they are a "service for Microsoft customers". They prominantly display the Microsoft logo on their message.
When calling their free number, 844-710-0803, I contacted a heavily-accented ( India) representetive who said he would help remove the virus if I gave him access to my computer remotely. He said there would be no charge for the service.
Of course, that sent off many alarms, so I got as much info as I could on him and the company before he hung up.
He said they were a remote electronic repair service in India, working exclusively on Microsoft products. He said they were not agents of Microsoft. He did not rp;y to my question of whether his company had intentionally frozen my computer remotely.
After he hung up, I turned my computer off, then on. It started immediately with not problems. I think this company has a link through an employment agency on line. ( I was contacting many at that time of day.) |They somehow can freeze your computer when you contact them. As mentioned, it can be easily resolved.
Microsoft may wish to know of this company's use of their logo.
I was trying to get into my email and a window kept poping up and would not let me in. It stated that I had to call this number: 877-514-6954 as it was a microsoft issue and it was the only way to resolve. I called the number and stated that I could take my computer to a Microsoft store and they would fix it and he insisted that he was from Microsoft and that I had to pay $99.99 dollars to fix the mess he stated my computer was in. When his supervisor came on the line to ask if I was authorizing the payment, I told him that it was their spam on my computer that caused the problem in the first place. He did not deny this - he justified it as saying that I had a lot of problems with my compter and they had to fix it. I did not have any problems until they spamed my computer and forced me to allow them to have access to fix it. I am calling my credit card company to stop payment and will be deleting this from my comupter.
Got name and number from internet while looking for support for Epsom printer installation. The "technician" is a scam artist whom we allowed to have remote access to our laptop. MISTAKE! He then proceceded to show us that asians had access to our computer, and had we recently traveled to Asian countries. NO.
To sum it up, we were transfered to a 'supervisor' who informed us that all of our problems would be 'fixed' for a fee of $249.00 which was a bargain as Apple would charge $900, which is a joke because Apple would not help with installation of printers.
At that point, we said we were not interested (we pretty much knew this was not a legitimate service but a SCAM). We could not get rid of the remote connection which had been established AND our internet connection had been intercepted and cut off, making it necessecary for us to call our internet provider.
I thought that I was calling HP for a problem with my printer. I told them the error code that I was getting and they said that I had to go to a internet address of www.logmein123 and they gave me a 6 digit code and then she was on my computer. She told me that my computer had alot of unwanted material on it and that for $99.99 she would fix that I was hesitant and she said that if I didnt fix it she couldnt fix my priinter I told her I couldnt afford it and she then got the price of 59.99 and she said that someone would be on the phone with me as they repaired it. She said put the phone on speaker and relax Next thing I knew they hung up on me I wrote to them on the computer and told them that I was going to callBBB and then they called me back. I dont know what they did on my computer I have a mac and didnt have issues as I explained to her and she said that once your printer doesnt work thats when you would be aware of this.
I am afraid that they now have my personal info
The man got on the phone and asked me the code again on my printer and i told hgim an he said I need to buy a new printer and to call them back when I get it!!!!
