While on the web, a Windows Network Defender window popped up with a Message from Webpage, dialogue box that does not allow you to exit even if you click “OK”. It says "A browser lock is in place to prevent further infection of your network and the networks of others. Call +1 844 710 0803 (TOLL FREE) for immediate assistance.
When I called a foreigner asks a few questions about what you were doing and what type of computer you have. Then asks if he can login with you to clean up the errors. After walking you through various screens, showing network errors (btw, he showed me my Norton Antivirus was working and up to date) he tried to sell me on the cleanup package for $99. Or for longer periods of protection it would be $149 for 2 years and another higher options for 3 years.
I convinced him to remove the screen that was blocking me (without charge) and he said it would only last for a few days. Amit, his name was Amit, gave me his phone number to call him back before it happened again to pay him for the protection. The number he gave me was: 8775146954. My fear now is that he may have deceived me by putting a "program" on my computer that may put my whole life at risk. All of my personal information (financial, medical, pictures, etc.) are on that computer. I don't know what to do or where to get help.?.? My computer is fairly new; to buy a new computer, and scrap the one I have would be costly. That may be my only option for total security.
I was searching job boards when the popup block my screen. I wish I knew which job site Ratchet is in cahoots with.
On 8/2/15 I also had this same Windows Network Defender Virus Alert come up on my laptop screen. No matter what I did to exit I could not. So after an hour of trying everything to get out I finally called the phone number (different from the one listed above) which was 1-877-514-6954. All the same actions by Tech #5 (name was said so fast I didn't catch it) and when I said I live on less than $800 a month and my laptop was a gift, he talked to his manager (supposedly) and told me they could give me the minimum offer for $49.99 for 1 yr. I need my computer, being on permanent disability, to connect with the outside world and my family who live at a distance. I took the deal and after almost 3hrs I could get back on my computer. I actually asked in the beginning of the call if they were part of Microsoft and he said we are affiliated and that Microsoft uses them for repairs on anti-virus software. When I questioned twice if they were again part of Microsoft the answer was we are used by Microsoft for this purpose. So I thought I was safe. Credit card, some files with very personal information I don't want public, family photos, all might be hacked now and I'm afraid to call anyone to get my money back and turn their software off, in case they use my information maliciously. What are all these people doing, like myself, to correct this and get things fixed by a company that isn't a scam????? Is there any help out here for us???
I was on the internet and all of a sudden a dialogue box popped up which indicated that I have serious viruses on my computer which resulted in disabling several programs. The dialogue box hasd a telephone number which I called. The number was 1-877-514-6954.
A technician picked up the phone and proceded to scare me into purchasing her services. She gained access to my computer and proceded to supposedly fix the viruses that were on my computer. The cost was $500.
After she finished I hung up and did some research on this company after the fact and found out that it probably was a scam.
My main concern is that they have my credit card information and potentially can now rip me off again.
I am a former employee of the company Ratchet Infotech(http://ratchetinfotech.us/). We use to represent our company as Hp, Canon, Epson and many more. If a customer would call us from US/Canada for the issue with their computer or printer, we use to take remote access of their computer and scare them by saying that they have viruses in their computer that is the reason there printer was not working and it could also put their personal details and baking information on risk and then ask them to pay a large amount as $300 or $400 by offering year support or one time support for their computer and fixing that simple software issue. Mostly old people would call us who didn't have any knowledge of computers and they would end up becoming fools of our scam by paying us money for no reason. Daily our team would make fake sales of around $8000-$9000 by scamming innocent people of US and Canada. After a while i understood the real motive behind company's MD Mr. Manoj Vasudev, who is just trying to fill his pockets by running a big fraud, so ileft the company. I request people if by mistake they end up calling these frauds, please do not give them remote access to your computer and hang up the call immidietely. They are frauds and still stealing money out of you pockets. BEWARE!!!
