I was simply searching on the internet to look at different scooters and prices. While on the Progress website, a pop up with a sales representative came up telling me he could get me a great deal on a scooter. He sent me a link to the scooter I purchased that showed a sales price of $3200 and that I could get it from him today at the special price of $1699. I explained in detail exactly what my brother needed the scooter for - drive to his gym for workouts, go to the grocery store. He said it could handle these things no problem which simply was not true. i was told the chair would be delivered in 5 days. My purchase date was 4/8/2015.The chair was delivered to my brother in boxes on 4/21/2015, 13 days after purchase despite being told it would take 5. I had to set up the delivery with my brother myself because they said they had the wrong phone number for him which was not true. He is handicapped, in crutches and has no way of putting the chair together. I was not told the chair would be delivered in boxes. I made it clear when ordered he was in crutches and the chair was to be used outside to go to the gym and store, both within a mile of his home. The salesman said this chair would work fine. His son was able to assemble the chair 4/22/2015. They then charged the chair overnight. My brother used the chair for the first time 4/23/2015 to drive it from his home to the gym which is approximately 1/2 a mile. The chair was barely able to get over the speed bumps in his complex. When he returned, it barely made it up the ramp to his garage. He checked the battery charge, it had burned off half the charge going a mile. He also said the ride was extremely bumpy.
I called Progress on Friday, 4/24/2015 at 4:30pm Pacific time and talked with John. I told him the issues and the chair wasn't going to work out. He said the first step was to have someone from Pride Mobility come out. He was putting in a work order but since it was so late in the day, no one would contact my brother until Monday, 4/27/2015. He also said they would be out by Wednesday, 4/29/2015. I called my brother 4/29/2015 in the afternoon, no one not only had come out, no one had contacted him or me for that matter.I wrote to both Progress and Pride when I was told they would send someone out.
I told them it had been 3 weeks since ordering and this was causing great stress and pain to my brother. I said I was going to buy him a scooter from a local company and I wanted to return this one as it is not satisfactory for his needs, this company has not done anything they said they were going to do and I did contact Progress well with 7 days of delivery. They said I had to wait for someone to come out and repair the current scooter.
I ordered my brother his new scooter from a local company. It was delivered on May 8, assembled and ready to run. He used it and it worked fine.
On 5/11/2015 a technician finally came out to my brothers home, 33 days after purchase. Since they had told me this was necessary to wait in order for me to even have a refund considered, I waited to contact them on 5/12/2015. They have informed me this is all my fault and I was not elgible for a refund. They said the company's policy is that before buying the customer should test drive the scooter. The sales rep I purchased the chair Mike, representing the company, never told me this. He said the chair would do exactly what I described my brother needed. If he had said I needed to have the scooter test drove I would have instructed my brother to do so and not gone ahead with the purchase. He also never mentioned I should read the policy on the company website. This chair is not greatly discounted either. I looked online found other companies offering the same price.
They are also saying that since I was offered a chair upgrade, they have no liabilty. After all the lies and deception, lack of following through, slow delivery, there was absolutely no way I was going to purchase another chair from this company.I was also very concerned about my brothers health.
This to me is really predatory selling to handicap and senior citizens. After Googling both companies, I have found several complaints from people being ripped off, including several on the Orlando BBB website. I noticed they are not even accredited with BBB.
The scooter was driven one time and has sat in my brothers garage since. I believe the technician might have taken it out after he worked on it. There is no reason for me to have to be stuck with a useless scooter. If it was what I was told it was, I would have never had a reason to buy another or spend all of the time going back and forth with Progress. Now it appears the only way I am getting funds back will be hiring an attorney. If anyone knows of a class action law suit involving all the people they have ripped off, I would be interested in either joining or starting one.
