I have tried to buy a boat in Florida through the broker POP Yachts. I made an offer by email and received an enormous contract which in the depths of the text it made clear that I was expected to pay almost $400 as a one off payment for various services, non of which I would need.
POP Yachts charges the seller 10% which in this case would have been $2300 for doing nothing but for which I accept they are entitled to for advertizing etc. However, I have purchased boats throughout the world and have never had to pay a fee as the buyer. This is a ripoff.
POP Yachts have since told the owner that I have not made an offer, which is untrue. As I understand it, the seller is going to remove his vessel from the POP Yachts listing as he has lost a sale and he had no idea that potential buyers were being asked to pay for the privilage of buying his boat when he was paying the customary fee for the complete service in any event.
This is a practice that must be stopped, if people refuse to pay, as I did, this broker and other like them will soon stop this nonsense.
The people are rude, will not stop emails. You sign up to look at a boat on there site and you are hooked. THey will never leave you alone. I have heard the stories of people who have actually bought boats from them and what I nightmare.
