Maryse Liburdi is the CEO and largest shareholder of Pokeware. Pokeware is a Minneapolis/NYC based company that uses the internet to market to global brands, mostly clothing, to sell their products via internet video. Pokeware is software that helps to identify clothing products that are being worn in popular videos or twitter feeds. The software will connect the viewer to the company that is selling the clothing product. Pokeware gets paid by the brand as it helps to generates additional views and purchases of its product
Maryse hired my company to help raise money for Pokeware. She was referred by a friend who didn't know her well, but thought she had an interestting company. When I first began talking to Maryse she was friendly, smart and enthusiastic--very easy to deal with.
She signed a contract with my company that stipulated that she would pay me a monthly retainer for my work. The money was supposed to be paid in advance. I immediately sent her an invoice and she said she would pay it. After she didn't pay, I repeatedly asked her about payment and she repeatedly came up with an excuse ranging from "I'm traveling" to "I can't reach my banker", to "I just sent it". Each time, she lied. All the while she kept asking me to do more work, attend additional calls and meetings, etc. I continued doing work for her for about two months. After repeated broken promises and lies I told her that I wouldn't do any more work until I got paid. At that point, she sent me a FedEx Tracking # with the promise that a check had been FedExed. Turns out the FedEx label had been created but she never sent the FedEx. When questioned a few days later, she made up a lie about an office move and how FedEx had "screwed up". After I continued to press her about the payment, she actually did send a FedEx with a check. The check was forward dated by a week and she asked me not to cash it for a week. I followed her request and when I subsequently cashed the check a week later the check bounced. She made up a lie about problems with her bank and then said she was going to send a wire. She would send fake confirmation numbers and promise that the wire was en route, but she never sent the money. Along the way I hired a lawyer who notified her of the contract breach. My lawyer sent her a letter demanding payment but she never responded to him or his letter.
Throughout the entire process, she was easy to reach and she was always willing to do calls or send texts, but she continued to lie and make up stories. I found another posting on the RippedOffReport detailing how she didn't pay another person who worked for her. The other person's story was almost identical to mine. In fact, I asked Maryse about this other person and she made up some story about how this other person which didn't ring true. What is so diabolical about Maryse is that she was always agreeble and apologetic. She never tried to hide from conversation about the non-payment. Her strategy is to kill you with kindness while continuing to get more work out of you without ever intending to pay. Because fraud is usually accompanied by people who are unpleasant to deal with, her approach is very disarming. She admitted that I performed the work and that she owed me money, but she was either unwilling or unable to pay.
Despite her disarming and overly friendly personality, she is a common crook. She breached our contract and lied to me about a dozen times. She is not to be trusted either personally or professionally.
