I was hired as a bartender at Platinum Playground. I took the job because it was close to home and I liked the owners, John Sr. and Jr. They both work in the law enforcement.
Incident 1: When I first started my job, I made a friend which was a customer who was friends with the older owner John Sr. The customer was in a serious relationship with a dancer who used to work at Platinum Playground. He was coming to the club regularly and showed me pictures of his girlfriend and daughter. I trusted him because he was nice and he was friends with my boss. One day, before he left the club, he asked me if I wanted to see his fancy limited Lexus which cost over eighty thousand dollars. He promised it wouldn’t take long, so I agreed. He let me sit in his car and promised that he would only drive to the traffic lights a couple blocks away and then take me back to the club, but for some reason he drove farther than he stated and also missed an exit (he was drinking). The ride took about 10 to 15 minutes rather than just a couple minutes like I expected. The customer did NOT do anything inappropriate to me, and nothing happened between me and him. He brought me back to the club and left. I realized that I left the bar unattended but it was against my will, I was tricked. I tried to explain what happened to the owner’s son, John Jr., and apologized to him over and over and promised it would never happened again. I asked him to not tell anyone especially his father because I adore his father and did not want to disappoint him. Later on after I quit my job, John Jr. not only started telling everyone about this, but also exaggerated the truth by saying I ran off with a stranger and purposely left the bar unattended, and I was doing things with him behind my husband. I admit that I was a victim of my own naivety. I thought I was socializing with a friend/customer; however, I did not purposely leave the bar unattended or doing anything unfaithful to my husband. John Jr. used his lies to turn a close co-worker against me. Not only I lost a friend, but also my reputation is ruined. As a person who works in the law enforcement, John Jr. should be ashamed of what he did to me.
Incident 2: The night before I quit my job, I went in John Jr.’s office and asked for a conversation with him. I told him that I heard from someone that a dancer gave a customer a and in the champagne room. I wanted John to find out if that’s true because it was my responsibility as an employee. I did not mention any names to him. I specifically said to him that I didn’t know the facticity of what I heard, but I worried about the club and my own safety. He promised me that even if the rumor was true, I wouldn’t be arrested for it, and he asked if it was the close co-worker of mine who told me this. I admitted. I did not point any fingers or lie about what I heard. After I quit my job, John contacted the close co-worker and told her I said that she was involved in the illegal sexual matter in the champagne room. She believed him and did not even give me a chance to defend myself. John Jr. is a lying hypocrite.
Incident 3: The same night before I quit my job, a drunk regular customer came to the bar. She was already drinking a lot before she came. I noticed that she has been crying, so I asked her what happened. She told me that she had a fight with her boyfriend and packed all her stuff and moved out. I told John Jr., the owner’s son, that the customer was heartbroken. He offered her a free drink, but she was too drunk that she knocked it over. I immediately sensed a potential liability risk to the club and myself. I cleaned up the mess she made while John Jr. was aware of what was happening. John asked me to give her a glass of water, and I did. Again, she knocked it over and broke the glass. John tried to talk to her, but she was barely conscious that she could not make sense of what she was saying. At this point, as a T.I.P.S trained bartender, I realized that I needed to get her home safely as soon as possible in case she starts to fade and pass out, or throw up, or hit people. I started talking to her in a friendly and informative tone in order to calm her down and convince her to go home. After almost an hour passed, I finally convinced her to call her ex-husband to pick her up because Platinum Playground is in the nowhere of Hammonton, NJ. There was no cab available. As soon as her ex-husband came, a new-hired dancer jumped in-between them and tried to get him or her to buy a lap dance. The female customer was in no condition to have a lap dance, and her ex-husband stated multiple times to the dancer that he did NOT want a lap dance. I told the dancer that he was only there to pick up the female customer, and she should not get involved. The dancer gave me a dirty look and walked away unwillingly. After the female customer left with her ex-husband, John Jr. waved to me from the other side of the bar. I went to him and expected a verbal reward, but it was nothing near what I expected. The dancer was pissed off and lied to John Jr that I blew off a customer who wanted a lap dance from her. John Jr. took her words without even asking me what happened, and blamed me for being the customer’s “counselor” and sending her and her ex away. I explained to him what happened and exposed the dancer’s lie, but John was so far into his opinion, and did not agree with me. I was very upset that he took the side of a new-hired dancer over me who sincerely tried to help his business. I felt insulted and wronged, so I decide to quit my job immediately. I told him the truth that I was not making money at the club and I was wasting my time there. The only reason I stayed for so long was because of his father. John Sr. was in a bad health condition and he needed my help. If John Jr. could not respect what I just did for him and the club, I wouldn’t work there anymore. After my resignation announcement, John Jr. was furious. He started cursing and made a movement that looked like he was going to jump over the bar and chase/hurt me. I don’t know if his sanity returned or one of the staff stopped him from being violent; I was not followed. I was frightened and left the club as soon as I could. I tried to text him afterwards to explain more about what happened, but he was too proud to admit that he was wrong. He even said the true reason why he mistreated me. In his words: “I will not stoop to your level”. I was very upset for being insulted by him, so I argued with him in text and told him what I thought of him. He cursed me in response “Go f*** yourself”. After all I’ve done for his father’s business, instead of appreciation, this was what I got in return from him. I don’t know what lies he said to his father who was in the hospital that made John Sr. not contact me or respond to my texts anymore. I have all the respect for John Sr. because he was very kind and liked a father to me. I have no issue with him.
Incident 4: During the entire time I worked at Platinum Playground, I was only paid once on Dec, 3. I was supposed to get two more pay checks, but I never did. John Jr. stated that he would mail me the checks, but I still haven’t received them as of today.
