I have worked for NPC International for almost five years. I still am currently employed with them, unfortunately. I have worked for two different Pizza Huts, neither were ideal. First off, NPC doesn't allow any raises, at all. The only raises crew members can earn is by going into management, where they can be evaluated every year and get a few cent raise. So you can imagine how, after five years of working my butt off for this company, I still make minimum wage.
Pizza Hut is the most corrupted work environment one could imagine. Not only is it against company policy for family members to work together, ESPECIALLY, if one is a manager, but this is how deep the corruption in my store goes. When I first started five years ago, one of my shift leaders got both of his nephews hired. Another shift leader got her daughter hired. Currently, my general manager has his nephew not only hired, but hired as a shift leader. On top of that, he has another shift leader whose daughter is going into management as well.
My assistant manager is best friends with this particular shift leader, and they call one another to gossip at work constantly. My general manager rarely does anything, and my district manager is an ignorant peice of garbage that has never actually worked in a store so he doesn't have a glimer of an idea what the stress is like.
I work in a big store, it is a Dine-In Pizza Hut that has a Carry-out Drive Through Window, and of course we do deliveries too. So needless to say, we require a certain amount of people there to even keep the store running. I have done my fair share. I have worked every position, I know each one by heart, and I have gone above and beyond many times for this store. Only to be lead on about management and told that I have a temper, or that I am too "buddy-buddy" with my co-workers.
I will be the first one to admit, I have a temper when the job isn't being done correctly, or people are just causing me more problems then they are actually helping solve. Albeit, I know that I would be a great manager. Unfortunately, I do not even WANT this position anymore after all of the crap my store and co-workers have put me through. Example:
I used to work 38-39 hours a week, because NPC doesn't allow any overtime, if you get overtime, you get wrote up. I had a set schedule. I come in Wednesday, Thursday, 9am-4pm, Friday and Saturday, 9am-9pm (No breaks, mind you), Sunday 9am-4pm, Mondays Off, and Tuesdays 9am-9pm. So needless to say, a good portion of my life was spent doing this same routine every week for four or five months. I never complained, I always come in and busted my butt, and did my job. No one ever had to go behind me and fix my mistakes, and many mornings I had to come in and go over the night shifts mistakes, because they are an absolutely useless bunch of people.
After all of this, my General and Assistant Manager were STILL leading me on about management and playing games with me. It was around this time, that they cut my hours down to 12-16 hours a week and completely destroyed any stability that I had in my life at this time. My steady cash flow plummetted, I began to get behind in my bills, and this was also around the time where I lost it and told my managers exactly what I thought of them, and quit. Of course, my resignation didn't last long. I have threatened to quit many times, but I have never walked out on a shift because I wouldnt want someone to do it to me, though they have many times.
I was the first person they called in when someone called out. I spent many months doing nothing but working constantly for them, just to be underpaid and underappreciated. Now, NPC is demanding they cut their labor because they are over paying their employees supposedly. All I have to say on this subject, is that I am currently looking for better employment. When I find it, I am leaving NPC for good, and I am never returning. I have never worked a job that was so ridiculous. NPC is a multi-million dollar company with stores all over the united states. They make more money off of their pizzas than anyone could ever even comprehend, because even with their $10 deal they are making a minimum of 6 dollars profit per pizza.
Because of the labor cuts, on days when I do work, I literally have to work several different positions at one time. I have ran make table, cut table, wing street, front counter, drive through, and answered phones, all at one time, running around trying to keep up with everything, while my general and assistant manager sit at the back desk and work on their paperwork. It isn't worth the money, and if this is how NPC is going to treat their employees I advise everyone, DO NOT WORK FOR NPC, go somewhere else! Anywhere will treat you better than NPC.
