Performance Cars and Trucks Reviews

  • Jul 24, 2014

I would never deal with this company again. Not because I didn't get a fair deal on the vehicle I purchased, but because of the absolute disrespect shown, unwillingness to take responsibility for a mistake made, and dishonesty shown by the owner and the family that owns this dealership.

There are much better alternatives than dealing with this family when looking to purchase a vehicle.

My situation involved a payoff on my trade-in. Performance Cars & Trucks was supposed to send the payoff directly to Chase, the lien-holder on my trade-in. However, almost a month after my purchase I saw that my bank account was drafted for a payment for the loan of the trade-in. (The account was on auto-draft).

This was a surprise because the loan was supposed to be paid off by Performance Cars & Trucks within a week of my vehicle purchase. I contacted Chase and was informed that no payment had been received by Chase to payoff the loan.

I then contacted Performance Cars & Trucks to inquire as to the payoff that was supposed to be sent to Chase weeks earlier.

It was at this point (after they'd made the sale) that the lack of respect for me, the customer, or any form of customer service became apparent.

I spoke with Aaron Sluyter, the owner of Performance Cars & Trucks. I let him know that the payoff for my trade-in had not been received by Chase and, as a result, I had to make an additional payment on the loan.

When we spoke on 5/12/14 Aaron stated that he thought it was mailed, but he would call his bank to see if his check had cleared and that he would then call me back. He also stated that if for some reason it was lost, since he has an account with Chase, that they would most likely remedy the situation by backdating the payoff to the timeframe that he sent the check to them. Thus, the additional interest that was charged should not be charged to my loan account.

After not receiving a call back from Aaron, I called and spoke with Aaron again on 5/14/14. After a very apparent agitation that he was having to deal with me and this issue again, he stated that, no, his check had not cleared. He also stated that he sent the payoff for my trade-in at the same time they sent a payoff for a different vehicle and he believed that Chase lost the check for my loan.

So, either Chase lost the check or Performance Cars and Trucks didn't send the payoff until I inquired about the payoff. I don't know which is the actual case, but I have very good reason to believe that Performance Cars & Trucks didn't send the payoff until I pressured them to do so.

While Aaron originally stated that he could provide me with the tracking information to show that the check was sent to Chase on time, when I asked for the tracking information he would not provide it to me. Why would he not want to provided me with this information so that it would clearly show he was in the right and so that I could take up the issue with Chase?

Regardless of whether Chase lost the check or Aaron and Performance Cars & Trucks didn't mail the check, Chase did not receive the payoff for my loan, which they were responsible for. And, I had to make an additional payment on the loan and my loan was charged additional interest.

Once the loan was finally paid off, I contacted Performance Cars & Trucks to settle the matter of the additional payment that I had to make due to the loan not being paid off within the loan's 10-day payoff timeframe.

It was apparent that Aaron was highly irritated by my call at this point. (His greeting to my call was a pleasant, "What...") I, again, shared with Aaron (after speaking with his wife, Cheryl, who actually sends the payoffs) that due to the loan not being paid off within the original payoff quote, I had to make an additional payment and there was also additional interest charged of approximately $14.00 on the loan during this timeframe. And, that because of my additional payment, the amount they had to send to Chase for the payoff was less than the agreed to amount. (In short, they benefited due to my loan payment making the amount they had to send for the payoff much smaller).

It was at this point that Aaron stated that, no, he would not pay me the additional interest that was charged on my loan due to the loan not being paid off in the agreed to timeframe. He then stated that this was all my fault because it was my bank who lost the check. And, that he holds no responsibility in the additional interest that my loan was charged.

Again, $14.00. This is the amount I requested from them due to their mistake. This is the interest I was charged on my loan due to them not sending the payoff. Not a large sum...

But, this is the amount that made it worth it to them to, ultimately, not only lose a me as a customer, but the business of anyone else that now knows how Performance Cars & Trucks treats their clientele.

My recommendation is to take your business elsewhere. I wish I had.
