I have been a gas customer of Equitable for almost 20 years now.
When I did not make much money years ago, they were more than happy to work with me on budgeting and bill paying.
The last 10 years I have made decent money and have even paid my gas bill down to zero a few times(my budget is uually over $275 a month year round to offset ridiculous gas prices in the winter).
Now that I am above the income"help" limits I have had my gas shut off at least 4 times in the last 18 months.Even in the dead of winter.
They have been uncooperative even more since I made a formal complaint to the PUC and had a phone hearing where I was basically called a deadbeat for not poaying my bills.
I admit,I have been late and I have not lived up to the ideal gas paying customer but it gets paid.
I have now been without gas since June and luckily it has been warm and I have been getting used to cold showers and wasing clothes in cold water and hanging them to dry,but winter is coming and my wife and 3 kids are going to need to be warm.
They want $2050.00 to turn this on,which includes the back bill and $250 deposit and $50 turn on fee.
I contacted the Pennsylvania Utility Commision in June with no reply and again on 09/22/2004 with no reply even though they said they could help and I would receive a letter shortly.
They will not budge on the amount needed,I have been a customer for this long and they know I am not skipping town on my bill but they will NOT work with me.
