I stupidly responded to one of those slick mail box flyers and asked People's Trust Insurance Company for an estimate to insure my home. After a lengthy telephone conversation with a long list of questions I was given a "reasonable" price for an annual Homeowners Insurance policy for which i immediately paid by credit card.
A week later I received a telephone call requesting a visit by People's Trust Inspector to which I agreed. The Inspector appeared, asked a few questions which were answered truthfully after which the Inspector took about 100 to 150 photographs of my home. Note that i encouraged the Inspector to photograph and/or inspect anything he wished. When his work was completed, the Inspector said everything looked fine and he left.
Approximately two weeks later, I received a letter from People's Trust Insurance stating that my homeowners policy was being cancelled. There was no options stated nor offered. No conditions! Simply cancelled.
So, I went back to my previous Insurance Company and re-instated my previous Homeowner's policy.
Another two weeks and I received a telephone call from People's Trust Insurance asking if I had mailed the requested photographs to which I responded: "What photographs??" There was no request from People's Trust for photographs. Besides, the Inspector had taken 100 to 150 photographs and there was nothing else that could have needed additional photographs. I also explained to the caller that having been advised People's Insurance was cancelling, I had sought and obtained a Homeowners policy with another Insurance Company.
Then, to add insult to injury, the caller insisted that I forward a copy of my new Homeowners Insurance Binder to People's Trust Insurance Company so they could process a refund. A copy was faxed to the number provided on 1 June 2015 and I have not received a refund as yet. BUT more importantly, WHY did People's Trust Insurance FAIL to issue a refund at the same time they cancelled?? They were certainly QUICK to ask for payment to which I complied.
Sooo, bottom line: Don't be too quick to respond to those slick mailbox flyers and Don't TRUST People's Trust Insurance Company.
