My business takes me to Brazoria County, Texas. I have a private mailbox in Pearland, Texas. On 6-18-2014 I decided to open a checking account at the Pearland State Bank. I met with a banker, signed documents, opened an account, and endorsed a check for $950.00 over to them that I had received from a county government.
Later that day they called me and wanted to renegotiate the agreement. They insisted that I have an actual office in Brazoria County; a mailing address simply wasn't good enough. I rejected their additional term and told them that I would take my business somewhere else. I asked that they send my check to me. They refused, and demanded that I drive back to their bank to retrieve it.
No, I responded, if the bank wants to renege and cancel the contract, fine, but it is their duty to return my property to me. The banker, Sylvia, then threatened to void out my check. "If you void out my check," I told her, "my lawyer will eat you for lunch."
I then told her that the bank needed to return my check or else I would file a complaint with the Texas Department of Banking. After checking with her boss, she told m that they would mail the check to me by certified mail.
Here it is 6-24-2014 and they still have not returned my property. I called up Sylvia today and she claims that it was mailed certified. I asked her for the tracking number, she gave it to me, and I ran the tracking number through USPS.com. "Not found." Certified mail is entered into the postal system's computers the day it is mailed. Either she gave me the wrong number, or else she never mailed it.
Either way, I have come to the conclusion that Pearland State Bank is run by crooked banksters.
