Omg, Thank U Jesus!! I am so glad I clicked on this link. I read the article about the guy who also received a call from some person claiming he owed $549.95 for business listing, which he knew nothing about. Well guess what, the exact same thing happend to me except on July 11, 2014. In the past I had a website, so I guess that is how they got my info. Who knows. Anyway I never dealt with this company. I only used Google. I was told the exact same thing that I would be receiving an invoice in 10- 15 days and I would have 30 days to pay it off and he told me how much it was. I was shocked, and didn't know what the heck he was talking about. I too agree the "invoice" is not a professional looking invoice. I have printed off the other report and if I get a call I will tell them the same thing and see what they say.
On May 7, 2014 around 1pm, I received a call from a woman telling me that I'm coming to the end of my service agreement for web optimization and wanted to know if I'd plan to renew. I told her I had no idea what she was talking about. She went on to explain that about a year ago I accepted a web optimization service that would move my band's name to the top of search engine results. She gave me an alleged start and end date for the service and again asked if I wanted to renew. I told her I still didn't know what she was talking about and asked how much it cost. She said, "$549.95". I told her there is no way I would have accepted their services. She went on to say that perhaps I agreed without fully understanding what I was agreeing to and that perhaps the fee could be reduced. She would let me speak to her manager.
A little while later, a man picked up the phone and goes through the same spiel about their services and that the cost is $549.
95. Again I challenged the alleged verbal agreement. I told him that not only am I a web developer and could have managed that service myself, but also that my band is a client of a couple agencies that manage many of our bookings. He too figured I accepted the agreement without understanding the service. He said I should be receiving an invoice from the company and when I do, call and let him know and he will mediate to see if he can get the fee reduced.
May 12, 2014, I received an invoice from Pay Systems Nationwide in the amount of $549.95. The verbiage sounded legitmate but the quality of the invoice was quite poor - cheap paper, personal inkjet quality, faded logo, etc. It further increased my skepticism. So I began to research the company.
I visited their site at www.paysystemsnationwide.com. It was very basic, said a lot without saying anthing. It had a janky client search that displayed clients' contact information (a big no no!), and a contact form. I began to comb the internet for partners, affiliates, references, reviews, reports, social media, BBB, peer analysis, etc. There was not a single reference to the company. In fact, a name search wouldn't return the company's web address. How bizarre is that for a web optimization company? The only way to get to their site was to enter the actual URL. BIG RED FLAG!
May 13, 2014, approximately 9am, I received a call from the guy checking back to see if I had received the invoice and to see how I would like to handle it. I told him about my extensive research of the company and that his company had no web presence outside of his website, from social media, web reviews to the BBB. He responded saying he can have the invoice voided. "Besides voiding the invoice, setting the balance to zero and removing you from our database, is there anything else we can do for you?" I said, "No". "Thank you for your time.", he concluded and hung up.
