It appears that Medicare beneficiaries in Upstate South Carolina are being targeted by PSB for Medicare Supplement replacement "deals". PSB buys lists of Medicare recipients then calls them for appointments. Many of my former clients have called me over the past year to complain that PSB has called them unsolicited, promised that they can save them a lot of premium money if they switch plans. Then they send an agent out (frequently not the one the client was told would come) and when they discover the client has medical issues they switch plans or take an application, go back to their office and then switch plans. This has left the clients in some cases with no plan at all or with a much higher premium or totally different plan than they expected.
Medicare supplements are only to be replaced if the change improves the beneficiaries situation. The fast talking agents have left many beneficiaries confused and , even worse, uninsured.
I had a call this morning from a representative of Palmetto Senior Benefits leading me to think "my" insurance company was conducting a "Medicare supplemental review" to see if my premium should be lowered, which she said was done "periodically." Upshot: agreed to an appointment for a representative to come to my home. However, extremely suspicious, I did further research and found they have NOTHING to do with my insurance company and are just another insurance marketing scheme. The only reason I spoke to them at all was the "Palmetto" in their name, since we seniors receive updates regularly from the Palmetto GBA that administers Medicare claims in our state. I am FURIOUS this woman misled me into giving her some personal health info, innocuous as it was--no health conditions here--on assumption t was my insurance company representative. Needless to say I have called back and given them a piece of my mind.
