North Texas Tollway Authority Reviews

Have traveled to Texas from Oklahoma several times a year for many years. We have to travel down the Turnpike to get to our destination and always paid the tolls in Texas, until they removed the cashiers and pay terminals. After that there were signs up indicating if you didn't have a toll tag that you would recieve a bill. Kept thinking I would recieve one but didn't until a few months ago. The bill was from 3 years prior with a large fee for late payment. I called the number on the invoice thinking I could explain that this is the first bill recieved that I would be happy to pay the tolls owed, but no late fees.

The number was only a voicemail saying leave a message and we will call you back which I did. They did call back about a week later from an unkonwn number, since I didn't know who it was i let it go to voicemail. It was the NTTA I called them back again but never recieved a second call back. Then recieved another notice indicating there were additional fees now, but I still could not get through to a person to discuss the charges. Now about 3 months after the intial bill I have a collector calling indicating I owe nearly $100 dollars for only 2 or 3 actual toll charges. Very frustrating and clearly some sort of scam to milk more money from out of state people.

Road you have to travel with tolls + no one to take tolls + signs indicating "no problem we will just bill ya" + bill 3 years later with huge late fees + no person to discuss bill with + authority to have you ticketed or possibly hurt your credit if you don't pay = HUGE SCAM!

Guess I am stuck paying the NTTA mafia or face the consequences.

So who do we complain to about the Fees and Late Charges from NTTA?? This appears to be an ongoing problem with them not billing until a late charge is applied. I sent my $ 3.36 for the use of their road and they sent it back. I cashed it and recieved another bill $13.36 with +$10 late charge. I called and explained that I had paid the initial fee and that it had been sent back. She stated that they did not recive it. after I told her I had a copy of the check sent and thiers sent back, she said I probably did'nt put my TAG # on the check. I asked her how they knew who to sent the check back too and she said by my name and address. Well I said could they not cross referance that to my bill and she said no!! So the problem is, this seems to be a problem so WHO DO WE COMPLAIN TO???

Over the past 2 years we have always had a problem with not receiving invoices from NTTA. Two times last year we received a bill from them that was titled 'First Notice of Nonpayment' and it had a $10 charge added to our toll charges (which were only about $2-$6 both times). We went ahead and paid the $10 fee because we thought there was a chance we had missed the invoice and had mistaken it as junk mail.

We travelled to Dallas 5 times this year (we live in Lubbock) and after our first trip, we have been watching the mail very carefully for the invoices since the previous two we thought we had missed. I tried logging onto their website and paying without the invoice but I was unable to because you have to enter the Account ID or the Invoice ID, which is only located on the invoice, how convenient.

Well we finally received our first communication from NTTA today and this is what was on it:

First two trips from March & May: (in the 'third notice of nonpayment' status and sent to collections already)

Tolls $5.36

Fees $64.00 ($10+$25+$29 collection fee)

Next two trips between May & June: (in the 'second notice of nonpayment status)

Tolls $12.85

Fees $35.00 ($10+$25)

Last trip taken in September: (in the First Notice of Nonpayment status)

Tolls $7.51

Fees $10.00

So in Summary, the first piece of mail we received from NTTA all year, was a bill for $25.72 and $109 in fees when we should have received at least 5 or 6 invoices from them. My wife called them and they only reversed the last $10 charged and wouldn't do anything else for us.

I called back and talked to an agent named Christiney. She told me that they had sent out invoices on every occurence so I asked her to provide me with some sort of tracking information from the USPS that proved that the invoices were sent out. After briefly talking to her 'supervisor', she informed me that they were unable to release that information to me.

I can understand that sometimes mail doesn't make it to it's destination, but there has to be at least 6 pieces of mail from them that we never received which leads me to believe that it was never sent since nobody else has ever had issues mailing us anything. Something extremely shady is going on here and there seems to be nothing we can do about it. NTTA isn't even a BBB accredited business so I couldn't file a complaint through them.

They told my wife that if she didn't pay the late fees then they would follow up with legal action and we wouldn't be able to register our car, which is a lie. I read in the fine print that for this to occur you have to be a habitual offender with more than 100 unpaid tolls within a year.

Quite simple, really. I spent $40 ordering a toll tag that never got mailed to me. I ordered it well over a month ago. They even contacted me saying that they keep getting the mail returned. I double checked my address and resent it to them. Still have not received anything at all.

I have never met a more unproffesional, non-performing company in my life, and I demand a refund. I'll avoid tolls from now on just out of spite.

I was trying to settle some tolls with ntta. I have a toll account and have had one since 2001. I was contacted by an attorney to pay the zip cash tolls but I get a discount being I have a toll card. I sent ups letter 3 times and they fell on deaf ears. Never heard anything from them. I just wanted a far breakdown and to pay the tolls at the correct price. I go to court and a different law firm shows up. They put a judgment of 6300 on me to pay in 12 months. I so pissed off this is completely out of control. I proved that I contacted them. I dont get it.

Same complaints as many, 600% mark up, late invoices, Ombudsman does not return calls or emails and no one cares to try and resolve matters. They do not have to because they have no one to answer to, although The State of texas is supposed to govern them. They are in someones pocket! Highway robbery, complete disregard for any customer service.

I will be boycotting the toll roads as much as possible!

Yesterday, 7/7/2014, I received a ZipCash bill from NTTA. The billing period was from 5/27/14 to 6/26/14. The dates for the toll charges were 1/6/12, 12/22/12, and 12/13/13.

So one charge was seven months old, another was 1 1/2 years old, and the last one was 2 1/2 years old.

What kind of ridiculous business is this? Is it part of their business plan to hang on to their tolls until everyone has forgotten all about them and can't remember if they're correct or not? These people should have to eat every single one of their tolls that is older than three months. This is a travesty! And do I get the same amount of time to pay their d*** bill that it took them to send it??
