National Vehicle Protection Services is a very un-ethical business. I have had several dissappointing contacts with this business. Everything from "thug like" intimidation and very combative customer service, to not covering claims and not cancelation of coverage when contacted by the customer just to name a few.
I wish that i would have seen the reports on this company before I purchased "top of the line" warranty on 2 vehicles from NVPS. I had a claim denied on one of my vehicles for three different problems!
They did cover one part ...they shipped to the repair facility, a used starter from a junk yard with 89,000 miles on the starter, they didn't even install a reman/rebuilt starter in! When they say the will provide a rental vehicle for you, well that is a joke also. In my situation they said they would pay for one day rental when it took them three days alone to ship the used starter from a junk yard to the repair facility. My vehicle was in the shop 7 days total waiting for authorization and part to be received. The NVPS rep said this repair was only a 1 day repair and that is all they would be paying a rental car for (Im still waiting for the rental reinbursement and that was over 4 months ago) on day not the 7-8 days, it took them to approve the repair and 3 days to ship the old used part from a junk yard! It would have been cheaper to have a New GM factory starter installed at the GM dealership out of my own pocket. This company is a RIP OFF!
I called into cancel this coverage and the gentleman (I use gentleman very loosely in this context!) became very combative and argumentative to put it nicely! I said I need to cancel the coverage and he damanded a reason why. I said because i would like to cancel the coverage and he again demanded a reason in an agressive tone of voice. I went round and round several times and asked to speak to a supervisor and the National Vehicle Protection Service representative hung up on me! I called back and got the luck to speak to the same representative AGAIN...asked for a Manager and AGAIN was hung up on! NVPS has thug like customer service!
My advise to other consumers about National Vehicle Protection Service is to.........Avoid at all cost! Take the 150.00 dollars per month they charge for the junk protection and put it in a savings account for future break downs...after all your going to have to pay it yourself anyway! And when you ask to cancel the coverage when they say you have 30 days to cancel...they will not cancel the coverage anyway or pay a claim, but will expect you to pay them!
Solicited a 93 year old man by telephone and "sweet talked" him into giving his payment information for an extended warranty on a car, which car, he told them, only had 9,000 miles on it. Not only is he 93, but he is hard of hearing. He thought he was signing on for a $300 policy that would cover everything on his car for another 75,000 miles, including accidents. He was led to believe he was speaking with HONDA about his Honda. He received a mailing, which he gave to me, daughter-in-law, to check for him. After seeing the paperwork, I explained to him they were NOT HONDA, they now had his bank account number and were charging him almost $3,000 and they were taking out a $300 deposit and taking out $200 a month. He flipped! I called them to cancel for him, as this was a COMPLETE rip off, whoever talked to him on the phone knew they were dealing with an old person, as you can tell from his voice and also you have to shout on the phone so he can hear. AND, even if they didn't know he was 93, why would they push something like this on a virtually brand new Honda that only had 9000 miles on it!!! And they knew the mileage because it's on the paperwork they mailed him! Trying to cancel was OUTRAGEOUS. First person on the phone kept INSISTING on telling me "you are going to have to pay for all repairs out of pocket" "repairs are expensive" and on and on and ON AND ON despite the fact I kept saying CANCEL THIS IMMEDIATELY. I kept telling her he did not want this, he was 93, the car only had 9000 miles on it, this is a rip off, she had the NERVE to say to me that I should take his checking account away so this doesn't happen. I said, HOW ABOUT NOT RIPPING OFF OLD PEOPLE! Got the same rigamarole when I was FINALLY put through to customer service. Still kept trying to SELL SELL SELL. They ultimately would not cancel and said we had to notify them in writing and REFUSED to give a fax number and said it had to be put in the mail. We then sent it to them, and sent all info to the bank, and also to the company that withdraws the money on their behalf (paylink) and also the company that funds any claims they would have which was out of Florida. They were HORRIBLE to deal with and are obvious scammers. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE STAY FAR AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE THEY ARE A COMPLETE RIP OFF and SCAM ELDERLY.
